Ummmm.... Okay, RAR makes sense .. but I'm missing files!

So you start unRARing and you get the dreaded "MISSING A FILE" message. You check the folder - dammit, its right .. you're missing one or more parts to this GIANT archive. WHAT DO YOU DO?

Well - you COULD check the group again - see if the files have been posted. Or, you could check another source, like EasyNews to see if the files are there.

Or ... maybe you can rebuild them ... you have the technology ...

To make the world's first bionic man?

No ... recovering those missing files.

I know what you're thinking ... How the hell do you recover something that isn't there?

Ah, its time to put on the Zen hat and come with me, grasshopper...

PAR? PAR2? Making files from nothing?

This might require a little push of the "I believe" button here ... I don't claim to understand how these works completely - but there are technical papers everywhere about these magic files and how they work. You don't need to understand them to use them ...

You might have noticed that along with those mysterious RAR, 000, PART1 files, you might have noticed some files with PAR or PAR2 file extensions. What's ... THAT all about?

These are PAR files. These files are like stem cells. You can make these files into the missing files in your set.

Huh? Stem cells ...?

Nevermind. PAR files can be used to rebuild the missing files. A special program called FSRaid or QuickPAR will take the PAR file, along with all the other files you DO have - and REBUILD the missing files.

Don't ask. Push the I BELIEVE button - and try it. You will need ONE PAR file for every file you're missing. Let's see how this works ...
