Worry not about your neighbor's doorstep ...

Something that is actually kinda nice to have around, but you'd NEVER pay for or even bother to search for on the net and install is a duplicate file finder.

We all know we have dupes laying around. Especially if you collect MP3 or image files.

The problem with finding dupes is - what constitutes a dupe, right? Exact same FILENAME? DATE ACCESSED? Even FILE SIZE isn't a dead perfect match.

Dopus has a solution.

Using a simple interface, you can select where to search and parameters (if any) about the dupe files. Then have it search - returning all the results into a spankin' new File Collection (told you there were 101 uses for this thing). You can then pour through them and decide which is to go (if any).

You're saying "Shane, there are already tools that do this". Maybe. But Dopus allows you to use MD5 checksums to be ABSOLUTELY SURE the files are 100% the same. MD5 ain't fast - but its accurate - and when you're permanently deleting stuff, you better make sure its good to go.

This is one of those tools you'll like - if you need it. If you don't, it will be pointless and you won't understand why they bothered. :)

If nothing else, its FASCINATING to see the number of dupes that Windows keeps around :)
