Multisystem DVD players and region help

I've read that in order to play our UK region 2 DVD's on a Canadian/US TV the DVD player needs to be "multi system" as opposed to just plain multi region for the UK NTSC>PAL region1 conversion .

My wife has most of the Region2 Disney films released and I'd appreciate it if anyone here has experience of these players, and the overall end result video quality? Please don't say I'll have to buy all those films again as well as the few faves I have.

Just any general impressions or advice would be appreciated, I've read reviews but well, you know, I've always tended to take word of mouth of people I trust than random internet reviews.

    Thanks in advance guys!!

I have a region free DVD player and my Xbox can also do region free playback and on my equipment they look just like Region 1 dvds. I have never seen any playback quality issues on my stuff with them.

I have a Pioneer DVD player, I can't remember the model number at the moment but I will have to look. It is a few years old but has awesome play back.

Why don't you backup all of those Disney movies in blank DVDRs? That will remove the region coding and you'll also preserve the originals sctrach-free.

Then again, I guess if the DVD is PAL you won't be able to play them in an NTSC DVD player on an NTSC TV.

Almost all the low end Philips players can do region free AND PAL2NTSC conversion.

    Thanks for the replies guys..

Flair, I thought of that but it was the actual pal>ntsc that was my concern. I mean I could convert them one by one, but way to time consuming heh.. and we don't have a DVD burner on this laptop ( went with the CPU upgrade instead of a DVD burner with the budget ). External one eventually..

Shane, Thank you for the link, sorry for such a simple sounding question but it's usually the case with me.. heh We actually had a Phillips player at home a while back, and damn! it'd play everything I ever threw at it. Won't be for a while yet, still discussing the move, but I like to know things before hand..

    I appreciate the time guys!!
