    Well I'm getting a GP2x but didn't mean to!

    Let me splain.............
of course having been a great fan of my GP32 I was following the GP2x for a while. Well I had outgrown my GBA and the GP32 was a great substitue. Wasn't great for video, I know some thought it good enough for clips etc but I found the whole converting thing to be flakey besides even when successful the best you got if you were lucky was like 15 FPS, that plus the limited card size didn't seem worth it. Anywho I loved it for emulation especially Sega Genesis. Well I started getting interested in GP2x, a natural progression spurned in no small part by Shane. However, through various circumstances last year I ended up with 2 PSP's and I went through the hoops of installing the hacked firmware etc allowing for the use of my homebrew, emulation etc. Also I ended up with a DS, again I had no interested but you can blame Shane yet again! So having 2 PSP and a NDS I decided OK, enough, my bases are covered and I am happy, I deleted the GP2x bookmarks I had marked as well as all GP2x info off my PC. I was so happy with my PSP/DS combo in fact I decided to sell my GP32 even, I took it out to test it and DAMN! It seems to be bricked, the red led is on and the LCD displays only a steady bright white screen but otherwise NOTHING (and before you suggest no it's not a power/battery issue) so I don't know what happened but I was a little pissed about it. Ah well maybe I could pawn it off for parts. Then "it" happened. At the Digital Press forums a fellow was selling his GP2x, the value pack with a 4 and 2 gig card loaded up etc. Strangely he wanted the money for a PSP, mostly for the PSX emulation! Hm, maybe it's a sign? I mean I do have 2 PSP's, he wants one, my GP32 died, well I didn't need a kick in the balls. Sure I had talked myself out of wanting one (or so I thought) but it's not like I was buying it right? Long story short (ok too late for that) my PSP package has been sent out and the GP2x is en route to me so looks like you will start seeing me around here more in this thread. Well with a PSP/DS/GP2x I really have my bases covered, yep no more handhelds for me, heh, no really I mean it!

I already new a lot about it but the more I read and research the more I am really looking forward to testing out all the emulators and Divx video etc! Oh man I hope I get it Monday especially since the other fellow PM'd me to let me know he got the PSP already!

Yay! Finally got it today! It has FW 3.0 on it, interesting system for sure. Upon quick inspection and as someone who owned a GP32 I will say not to sure about the Joystick............
I do like the screen though and it seems to be a nice little unit which should compliment my PSP and DS nicely, I think I really like it! I'll get back with more when I've run it through it's paces.

UPDATE: Well I already put a nice new skin on it, funny enough it's Liquido skin 3d which was designed for 2.1 but works fine with 3.0
and looks great! I have been playing with it all night and am very happy. I removed the tutorial video under the help menu and just transferred to PC
to save the nand space for more important things. Anyway, I'll be getting back to you guys if/when I need any help or info..................

The stick isn't a patch on the GP32 is it? I miss the click...

Glad you got it ok. Careful with the card slot pins.

OK, tried some games, emulation, music and video and my impression is...............VERY NICE! Indeed an excellent compliment to PSP and DS, all have their strengths and weaknessess for sure but all seem interesting enough in their won way to make having and using them all fun and useful. Really the boot time doesn't bother me at all, The skin I am using is simple yet elegant to me at least, a major improvement over the default. I think maybe I'll grab a few my high capacity rechargables. I think I am good for storage with a 2 and 6GB card. Seems a lot of potential in this little unit, I love having an impressve handheld that isn't "mainstream" always a good conversation piece.

Yeah what I like more than anything is the sheer amount and variety of emulators, interpretors and homebrew.

There's more out there than anyone has time to sample, and a good proportion is absolutely top-notch or in constant development to get to that point.

Yes that's for sure but I'll have fun doing it.
ANOTHER BONUS!!!!!!!!! I just found out of course it displays the jpegs
my Samsung digicam creates but on top of that my digicam shoots
video and although it's not much better than YouTube quality guess what? The GP2x plays them perfect, in other words it's a great combo for a trip, take pics and shoot video with the Samsung and take out the SD card and pop it into the GP2x and I can enjoy the pics and vids on the GP2x's bigger screen immediately, nice! That to me is the big advantage that the GP2x uses standard SD cards as well as plays Xvid/Divx (Unlike my PSP!!!!)

Yep, I'm lovin it all right!
