Which Media Player do you Prefer and Why?

    I own an Ipod.

So for the last couple of years I have been using I tunes, to organize my music libary.

But having discovered that there is now Ipod support for WinAmp I decided to give it ago.

And the difference in memory usage is unreal.

    Very customisable too.

    So what are your thoughts?

Well overall I like mplayer over any media player out there. Command line usage and the ability to playback anything, even broken half files is great.

In Windows I use Media Player Classic for video, I have never had any issue with it playing anything, I have been thinking about giving VLC a try someday. For audio I have been using Winamp for as long as I can remember. I used to run it on my old 386.

I also have been using winamp and haven't found anything I like better. I have tried some others, but always go back to winamp.

For music, I use Winamp. For podcasts and other spoken word audio, I use this:

Winamp, VLC - in that order.

I used to use VLC but it's handling of certain stuff annoyed me.

I leave it there though for those awkward, nothing else will play them files.

I have been using GOM Player for a while and I really liked it, but recently it's been playing up and not playing certain files it used to play.

I have now gone back to Winamp 2.80 after about 3 years of being away.

For DVDs, I use an old version if WinDVD (I'm already accostumed to the keyboard shortcuts). The new versions of this player are a hog, they won't run well on my old T41P laptop, plus version 4 is good enough for what I play, and it's so simple it runs hella fast.

For everything else, I use VLC; except WMV files, I'm sort of forced to use WMP for those.

Media Player Classic (I see no reason to use something else) and Winamp 5 Lite (I don't get this fixation with 2.80).

I tried it (6.4) ages ago ... it has a NASTY habit of leaving "phantom" copies running. After you play some files, check your task manager and see, when you have MPC closed, if you still have them running in memory.
