Thread: What games do you want to see?

What games do you want to see?

I sometimes get the feeling that some of you are fed up with todays games. That they don't have anything original or what you are looking for.

So my question is: what genre or type of games would you like to see?

Be as specific as you want.

(Did I use that colon correctly? That's like the 3rd time I've ever used one. I have horrible writing skills. Well, mediocre.)

Ok, here is what I want to see more of:

Puzzle games. Namely for the GBA. Unlike with the GBC, there seems to be near no puzzle games for the GBA except Collapse & Denki Blocks!. That's NOT enough. Besides Collapse, I would love to see ALL the puzzle games found on GameHouse.com to be made for the GBA.

Point and click style adventure games. Enough with the $#!tty Jap RPGS! I want to see Sierra or LucasArts style graphic adventure games brought back.

Old school horizontal or vertical scrolling shooters.

Old school single screen platform games. Like Jumpman for example.

What I want to see more in consoles is interactive games. Games that create an environment that's more than just holding a controller and pressing buttons.

I want to see more EyeToy games that take the experience to a next level, better recognition, better games, more immersion.
I want to see more games where the controllers are musical instruments, pads for feet pressing, interaction with the voice, etc.
I want games that make me break a sweat while having a blast at the same time

What I want in the Arcade scene is... more places that have all and only games from the 70's and 80's, and more places with lots of pinballs.
And also, new companies developing new pinballs, Stern is not Williams, so we need someone of that caliber. You had it there with the Pinball 2000 technology, make something good out of it.

And I want games with ENDLESS replay value.

And how about games with some randomization. Like randomly generated environments, levels, monster/item placement, etc.

Arcade scene? Is there one?!?! True arcades are dead!!! Any so-called "arcades" today are filled with nothing but rows & rows of boring fighting games, dull racing games, and stupid kiddie ticket redemption games. These aren't "arcades", they're "Family Amusement Centers".

Here here, I agree with Jamcat for once, a return of nostaglia somewhat..
I dont mind if it turns into some 3Dish fiasco also so long as it's actually really good and in the spirit of well whatever it may be based upon...

Like I could see Impossible Mission being made into an exciting FPS-like game similiar to Splinter Cell only without the weapons/guns/grenades/knockout move and having robots (With different attributes like before) instead of terrorists/soldiers. That would be cool, a game of multiple cats and mouse. :-)

A point and click adventure game (murder mystery maybe?) with a lot of randomization would be sweet..
I've always thought that the 3Dish FPS perspective would be great to have a point and click adventure in... Tex Murphy series were excellent and I miss those..

I liked the Transformers game, not just because Im a pure TF whore. It added some real freshness to the fps/3ps genre. The transforming ability added a new angle to things; See some enemys in the distance, transform, go speeding in to them, ram a few in the main group, send the rest scattering, then transform back to robot while spining back around to fire at the rest of them.

I wana see a game with those same play mechanics, the real generation 1 transformers, multi-player, a reason for real classic hand to hand fights, and if they are going to use drone enemys again, at least use "repainted" cameos of toy molds/characters not used elsewhere in the game.

Alright, I would normally preach against such things, but the dark side in me really wants to play such a thing This might be a little too advanced for todays games, but maybe someday ...

I want to see a Fridaty the 13th type game, where you get to play the role of the axe-weilding manic living out in the woods, and you find a cabin that's being inhabited for the weekend by a bunch of horny teens. It would be a Thief/Metal Gear Solid stealth-type game where your job is to dispatch all of the teens without being found out or killed in the process. Basically, the teens go through some random scripted patterns, and you can pick them off in whatever order you want. For example, say a couple of them are doing the freak nasty outside in a tent, and the guy goes out to relieve himself, you could take your pick as to which one you want to off first. And once you've got a decent body count, you could drag the bodies into a central location, and lure one of the remaining live ones to that spot, and once they see all the dead bodies and start to freak out, when they turn around to run in the other direction, they find you waiting there with a meat cleaver!
And when you're done slaughtering all of them, your reward will be like a feature length film where you get to sit back and watch your handywork like it was a horror flick

You know, that is actually a very good idea. Some developer better start working on that project... that is excellent.

It would be a mix between Manhunt and Thief, of course with all the gore.

In the end as you say, you could get to watch a "movie" viewed from the angle of the victims...

    Cool!

The movie part of your actions does sound cool. Sorta like how the game Stuntman uses the stunts you've done in the movie trailers.

A horror stealth game would be cool. But I think playing the victim would be better than playing the killer. In those horny teen horror movies, the teens always make themselves easy pickings for the killer. By going into areas where they shouldn't go, or opening doors that they shouldn't open, and so on. It'd be no fun being a killer if the teens in the game are scripted like movie teens and set themselves up for easy kills.

I think playing a trapped victim that has to outwit a killer would be more challenging. Having had all your friends killed and being the last survivor, you'd have to set traps for the killer in hopes to survive long enough till help comes.

I would love to play a sci-fi slant on this type of game.

Say like the movie Aliens. Here you would be cast as Newt, trying to survive alone in the base against the Aliens until Ripley rescues you.

Or being aboard a ship with some freaky crap happening like that in the movie Event Horizon.

I myself love the lone survivor on a starship/space station against the unknown evil/aliens type story.

Still say the best experience in a game like this was in System Shock 2. It would have been cool if that game had the ability to play back your actions in a movie mode.

Well, if you were playing the role of the victim, it wouldn't really be a horror movie unless you didn't know about the killer ahead of time. But since you do, it kind of spoils the whole thing. A better idea in your senerio would be playing Rambo out in the woods being hunted by a bunch of cops and having to kill them off one-by-one, or something like Bruce Willis in Diehard. Or maybe a Predator type game where you're playing the role of Ahnold.

It'd be no fun being a killer if the teens in the game are scripted like movie teens and set themselves up for easy kills.
Why not have a difficulty setting? The easier the difficulty, the easier they are to kill. Like harder difficulty levels would enable them to more easily hear footsteps and such. On the easiest difficulty setting, that's B-movie mode - you could be standing right in front of some chick in the woods with a machette while the stupid bitch is going "Jim, is that you?"
As another option, you could set the mortality of the killer. Do you want to be able to die like a normal human, or be indestructable like Jason?

Only bad thing is, you can bet those on the Right would be all over this game - it'd never get released I bet.
