Nice thread.
I've been playing some Super Mario Bros closely followed by The Lost Levels.
I recently revisited some Castlevania titles but once again, I failed to see the draw. The NES titles are bleh, and the SNES title I tried was tooooooooooooooooooo sloooooooooooooooooooooow.
I keep promising myself that I will sit down and play Ocarina Of Time and Majora's mask.
After my house move later this year, I'll be on the lookout for a cab to recondition.

This weekend i played a bit of ..........
Alien Crush on the PC Engine.
Paperboy 2 on the SNES.
Choplifter 3 SNES.
We got Super Mario Bros on the Wii and my daughter and wife are loving the heck out of it. Strangely enough I have this game, on the Org. NES, Playchoice 10, plus emulated on the Dreamcast (all of these are hooked up), but they only play it on the Wii with the Classic Controller.
I'm guessing this is Super Castlevania IV? It is a bit slow, and the 1st level is just plain drab to look at and to play which is odd. It really kicks off from level 2 onward and the music is still among the best I've ever heard from a videogame.Originally Posted by miner2049er
I've my SNES adapted to display at 60Hz and Castlevania is one of the few games that gets a slight burst of speed from this. Despite what you hear about SNES PAL games running slowly, many of them were PAL optimised so that you don't really notice any increase is speed at 60Hz. Those games that were evidently not PAL optimised do show an increase - Castlevania IV being a case in point.
The big plus with the 60Hz display is the larger screen size - which itself can make a game feel faster. It is hard to believe just how different & better many SNES games look at 60Hz; and its a crying shame that PAL games back then were butchered this way.
I've been blasting away on Taito Legends 1 & 2 on my PS2. This raises another point. Some games on these comps. run badly when 50Hz is selected - for example the Bubble Bobble music runs too slowly. Selecting 60Hz fixes this - but be sure to have an RGB SCART lead in an RGB socket or else it won't work - even with a TV that supports 60Hz.

My favourite version of SMB1 is the one that is part of the Mario All Stars compilation for the SNES. It looks great and the 2 player game has been improved - instead of having to wait for a life loss before its your turn, its your turn when either your opponent loses a life OR finishes a level. This, coupled with a hi-score save to cartridge, makes it a great version.
Yeah, that's the one.
Yeah me too, and I own more NTSC carts than PAL ones.
I actually played CastlevaniaIV emulated as my SNES wasn't hooked up, but it was running at 60Hz.
... and still the same way on the VC too which is just plain lazy.
I have the original NES version and the SNES one too on NTSC, and one day I intend to hook both up and compare. Allstars is a great compilation as it contains another one of the finer Mario platformers, SMB3. I plan to get that on NES too.

Ever since I got the GP2X I was looking for something time consuming passing the time, waiting for my turn to box a friend at Fight Night Round 3, I have gotten back into the Dragon Warrior Series. Playing both DW1 and 2. Love the grinding and dungeon crawling, good way to waste a lot of time. ANd on my TG16 trying to beat Silent Debuggers (one of the first FPS' I have ever seen with ZeroWing dialogue) and reclaim my mastery of Blazing Lazers from my high school days. Still trying to figure out how I beat that game so easily back then.

I believe this to be the first C64 ROM i bought.
I was playing some Super Mario Land last night on my DS. It was one of the launch games for the original GameBoy and it really brought back some memories after having not played it for about *18* years....WOW, I can't believe its that old.

Its really a cool little game and I remember it amazing me at the time considering it was a TRUE little portable Mario platformer game I could take anywhere. The explosive Koopa shells were a nifty little idea. Even though Miyamoto had absolutlely nothing to do with its development, it was carefully reproduced for the system by the delicate skills of venerable Nintendo employee Gunpei Yokoi whom designed the system as it was.
