    Yeah, I'd like to know this as well. I've heard it had to do with being able to run your own PS1 iso dumps, but what I'm left wondering is about other homebrew compatibility.
    I've still got my PSP set to firmware 1.50 on which I can run pretty much all the emulators I want. Would I still be able to run these exact same emulators without any pitfalls on this 3.02OE-B firmware?
    And would I be able to run UMD games that require 2.6, 2.7 and up firmwares? I'd love to pick up a few of those Capcom and Konami retro titles, but not if it meant sacrificing my 1.50 retro-ability.

    Firmware 3.02 OE-A is a custom PSP firmware written by Dark AleX. This custom firmware allows PSP to run homebrew and ISOs without needing to run Devhook or HENC. Homebrew and ISOs can be run directly from a memory stick using the Sony XMB interface. Firmware 3.02 OE-A provides all of the benefits of using firmware 1.50 without the handicaps. All of the latest PSP features and UMDs work perfectly.

    * Runs 3.02 vsh
    * Can run homebrew using 3.02 kernel
    * UMD Video region free
    * PSP kernel region selector
    * O/X button selector
    * WMA enabling option
    * Flash player enabling option
    * Pops (SCE PSONE emulator) - DRM protection hacked

    Firmware 3.02 OE-B is a minor upgrade from 3.02 OE-A. Most PSP users will need to downgrade to firmware 1.50, then upgrade to 3.02 OE-A, and then upgrade to 3.02 OE-B. Upgrading from 3.02 OE-A to 3.02 OE-B is very easy and only takes a few seconds. The only new feature in this release is the ability to backup/play your own PlayStation titles.

    I was hesitant at first but finally upgraded my PSP from 1.50 to 3.02 OE-B recently. It works great. My kids have been enjoying some PS1 ISOs I made of Crash and Spyro using Popstation. I've also been playing some FF9. All my existing 1.50 emulators and other homebrew work fine. I love how the 3.02 OE-B firmware lets me boot ISO's and homebrew directly from XMB without using Devhook. The whole system seems less hacked now and I can even use the browser and hopefully PS3 features. I can't think of any reason why anyone would want to keep using Devhook and 1.50 firmware. Besides, the 3.02 OE-B firmware can be downgraded back to 1.50 if needed.

    That there alone ALMOST makes me want to get a PSP.

    (Just drop it down a bit more Sony... then we'll talk)

    Seems you guys aren't aware of the secret code to access pixel-perfect (non-stretched) display mode in Midway Arcade Treasures for the PSP:

    1. PAUSE the game (it will bring up in-game pause menu)
    2. Hold L trigger and press Square button to toggle display modes while paused (or hold L+R and press Square, or hold Circle or Down on the D-pad and press Square)
    3. Enjoy! (works for most games.)

    Hmm, I've been trying to use MAME to emulate some games perfectly with sound on the PSP, with only limited success, anyone found good games that work perfect with sound?

    Thanks for that thorough explanation bitblt.
    I'd been out of the PSP loop for a while since getting my DS, but this helps makes sense of the whole firmware saga once more.

    I'm now very tempted to upgrade to 3.02 OE-B.

    I am brand new to the PSP.
    I have upgraded to 3.03 oe (There is a new version allready)
    Thus far I see no problems and this runs all that I have put aginst it.
    The new version allows PS1 games to run on the PSP.

    The big problem is a real time line needs to be created so people know where to start with what (PSP version) they have.
    Good luck
    I was so confused when I started this I started a help thread too.

    I didn't want to post this in a negative PSP thread (some one start a general one) and its kind of retro, kind of.

    Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars comes to PSP

    - crazy taxi: fare wars
    - includes crazy taxi 1+2
    - new multiplayer mode (ad hoc 2 player)
    - new minigames and game modes
    - release: summer 2007
    - developed by sniper studios

    This is certainly a game to pique my interest in the platform, needs a bit of work though.

    Thanks for the head's up, Rik! Crazy Taxi for the PSP! My daughter's gonna go nuts for that - she's a Crazy Taxi maniac! It's by far her favorite game - she's been playing it regularly for years... I'll probably have to buy a second copy if I ever want to play it

    I'm glad to see these DC conversions/sequals like this the Powerstone collection and Virtua Tennis. Whilst the Dreamcast was universally loved (seemingly) not many people got to play these great games so I really hope it does well with a mainstream auidence and its faithfull to the original. UK resistance have got a funny peice about it at the moment.

    Ikaruga for the PSP would be very nice indeed. Or Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh.
