no, unfortunately...unless you import your songs again as MP3 (which is NOT default...you have to set it...argh).

have you tried any of this? It might just need a reset.
If that won't do it, take it down to the Genius bar in a local (official) Apple Store and they'll sort you out.
That is also a good fix, The Lone Deranger.

I fixed my ipod by ... getting a nano. I just don't trust the hard drive based iPods. I went through about 3 of them in 3 years. Flash based memory is where its at.
I totally agree. Hard drives - no matter HOW SMALL - just aren't built for active mobility. Sure, they can claim them are all buff and ready for the active user, but I just don't buy it.
Then I hear the "oh but I need DIVERSITY" bulls*it from Clan iPod ...
If you need more than 8GB of storage, you're just too goddamn lazy to change you music out every couple of weeks. If you had a REAL player, with a REAL file manager *cough Dopus cough* you could quickly and easily change out music on your mp3 player every couple of weeks and still have a great variety. Remember, 8GB even with high bitrate MP3s is STILL 1100+ songs. Even if you require diversity (work out music, chill out music, homework music) - say 5 categories ... you're talking about over 200 songs (almost 10 hours) for each category. Do you listen to your mp3 player more than 50 hours a week? If so, you might have BIGGER problems than finding the right MP3 player.
Let's say you have an hour commute to work each day, a lunch hour, and finally an hour workout at night - that's FOUR hours a day you listen to music. That's a mere 28 hours a week. That still leaves HALF the music on your mp3 player UNLISTENED to (provided you don't listen to the same song twice).
Don't give me bullsh*t about diversity.
I've YET to understand why ANYONE needs 20/40/60GB of music on the go when 50% of the time; especially when you're near your computer anyway.

"Consider the improbable is possible"
If I were using my Ipod only for music, I'd pretty much agree with you there. However, I love my 30gb Ipod Video because I can carry a ton of my pics around (and everyone is always wanting to see baby pictures, so it's easier to whip the Ipod out than to carry around actual photos all the time. Plus I can change the photos out very easily). I've got the AV jack, so I can just put it in a TV and boom, instant slideshow to appease the people who want to see photos.
I also carry a fair amount of video around, I'm talking my own personal home movies (which are important to me, so it's fun to have them).
On top of that, I have an extensive collection of live music. I'm talking ALOT. I love being in the car and having any of the shows available at my fingertips. Sure, I could switch it out every night, but that takes time to do and I'd rather spend that time with family or on other hobbies (like Wii, etc). It's just easier to already have it all there.
I believe, though, that you are a special case. Sure, in your case, you need the room.
But are you the "typical iPod user"?
