Local TV Wii/PS3 Comparison

A local TV station took 4 kids around the ages of 13-15 and let them play both first the PS3 and the Wii. They played the PS3 first, and seemed to be enjoying it, marveling at the amazing graphics. They then played the Wii, and it was remarkable how much more energized they seemed about it. They really seemed to love playing Wii sports, and were absolutely giddy as they played against each other. When the time came to choose, they each held up a sign as to which system they would choose, and 3 out of the four held up a Wii sign. The other one just laughed and said "ya'll aren't true gamers".

It was a very interesting little segment, and it was fun to see four average teens give their opinions. Gives one a little more hope for the upcoming generation, choosing gameplay over just graphics.

I agree with 90% of what you said except this last sentence.

I am sure it will go over many people's heads but this isn't an academic question: what does "choosing gameplay over graphics" have to do with it?

Imagine the same experiment but instead of "PS3" let them play Chess, Archon, Civilization, Sim City, Elite, SunDog, Laser Squad, M.U.L.E. , Descent, System Shock, Deus Ex, .. I could go on forever.

The response would be the same and for obvious reasons, none of which would have absolutely anything to do with gameplay.
