RetroGaming Radio July 31, 2006 Episode - The Best of Volume 2

The Best of RetroGaming Radio Volume 2! In this special "Best of" edition, we feature Flashbacks of Prince of Persia (3/2003) and Killer Instinct (8/2003), our great interview with Bill Kunkel (aka The Game Doctor) (9/2003), editorial commentary on The Death of 2D Gaming (7/2002) and how Shane got into arcade game collecting (10/1998). Another great show put together by our intern, Fernando Garcia.

Amazing how much I still hated Nintendo back then. It's cool to listen to this old stuff ...

Oh my god...I remember that rant...Hey Shanestah, which was better for you, the Atari Lynx or the Sega Nomad? Which one do you recommend for us to purchase if we went to something like CGE?

Great flashbacks too, Killer Instinct pwns, and PoP pwns too.

Thank you for putting the arcade collecting bit in there!! Well, Bill Kunkel is a good interview, so I'll be listening to that.

Nomad had the games - to be sure. But it was the biggest pain in the ass too. The batteries were in a clip on battery pack, the power connector was notoriously poorly contructed (imagine playing MK2 while trying to keep the Nomad COMPLETELY STILL so you didn't wiggle the power cord).

The TV out and extra controller plug was the bomb though.

The Lynx has soul though. The arcade translations were simply incredible (like Road Blasters) and there were some damn decent games out there for it.

The Nomad wasn't all that portable either. The carts (being real Genny carts) ain't "pocket friendly". You needed that man sack to carry any sort of games around with you.

    Why "Intern"?

Why does Shane call his most valuable helpers "interns"? Isn't an intern lower than a secretary in the work place? Why Intern? Why not "Super Helper" or "Sidekick" or something stronger even? Intern makes me think of someone in a hospital. I looked it up on dictionary.com and it didn't help me. I feel Flare deserves a title that is more than merely an intern. (send to flameboys if need be). Thanks, Andy Yes, I loved the show but I heard everything before but you know what...I am listening to it again...WELL WORTH IT!

Interns are great. I have one at work right now and I make him do all sorts of crap. I have been actually including him in real work but he also knows how I like my coffee and how much fun typing up my reports can be.

I could be wrong about this, but the word "intern" generally means "volunteer" or "unpaid", and doesn't necessarily measure the impact of the person's contribution.
