Do many of you use the M3 Adapter (Movie Player)?

Hey all - new to the forums.

I noticed that most people seem to be using the Supercard. I own a M3 Adapter (Mini SD), and find it absolutely incredible. There is an official Supercard thread - but I haven't seen much on the M3. (Had to get fancy with the search engine since it wants more than two characters for a search)

In any case - are there enough of us here to startup an M3 thread? I apologize if I missed finding any M3 thread with the search engine. I haven't had the thing for too long, but I am amazed at what it can do. Good (that is..."good english") documentation is kinda hard to find. I wouldn't mind creating a FAQ, but wondered how many of you here might have one (be it CF, Slim SD, miniSD, etc....).

So who's got one? How do you like it? Are you having any issues with it? Talk to me.

M3 gets talked about a bit here, but most of the information about Supercards is interchangeable. The M3's main differences are:

    • Better GBA compatibility (faster RAM)
    • Better build quality
    • Savestates for GBA programs
    • Slightly more expensive
    • Ability to backup your own DS cards

I own an M3 Perfect SD (same size as a Supercard SD, just a little bigger than a GBA cartridge) as well as a Supercard SD. I prefer the M3 for savestates in GBA games, but for DS/homebrew either works well.

M3 owner represent!! And I'm with you, I'm sick of all the supercard talk. M3 rocks hardcore.

I have the M3 SD-Lite and I love the thing. Another plus to the m3 over the supercard is battery life.

I kinda missed the whole gameboy advanced generation, so the m3 - for me was a way to have that while also having the nds compatability.

The only real problem with it (and supercard too) is that they both stick out of the ds-lite. I've gotten over that, but one of these days I want to buy one that sits flush. But for now, it certainly can't be beat.

Also, there is a really good FAQ here:

It's pretty basic, but if you want a nice introduction, it certainly is nice

Is there any reason why to care about M3 if you don't care about GBA? I mean, otherwise, I don't see the differences between it and say the Supercard.

    Well, yea Shane..
Like with the DS carts do you want to have to carry your entire GBA library with you all the time now?
With the Supercard, for some reason you have to restart it in order for GBA games to save... a small nuisance but still.

Okay, that's all I was asking. If you need GBA compatibility, this is a better card. Got it

I went with M3 myself because a friend had one and it felt like the safe way to go since I actually got to play with one before I bought it. I think it's a great product and recommend it for anyone looking for an easy to use solution. The GBA support is nice too

As someone else mention battery life and GBA functionality are better but there is another one which is sort of related. Hardware, memory and IO, is better and for some NDS homebrews (and commercial) apps, play is a bit "smoother". Only very large size games with many new objects (heavy action), may notice a slight stutter in those points as device's ram/flash card clash (IO/memory lags with the DS). Remember the apps are never read directly from the CF or SD card but through the devices memory buffer before translating and presenting the data to the DS. For large amount of data, the CF or SD card may stream to the buffer where it could be bottle-necked by slower buffer memory. It's very minor yet could come into play. Just my two cents. Bye.
