    Virtual Money for Real ?

    Only a matter of time.
"It's not a matter of if, just when - credit card companies, Pay Pal, Amazon, eBay and the individual 'gaming' companies eventually bridge the real and virtual currencies with loyalty programs and private label credit cards—there's too much money out there to not to do this."

Why not? We're way past money being based on something tangible anyway? How many countries base their currency off of gold?

I tell you what ... when currency goes virtual, only the hackers will be wealthy. Seriously, we are LONG away from any secure enough system to handle full virtual currency. As long as ActiveX lives, we can't have virtual currency.

Hell, my company is in 100% internet lock down (i.e. NO OUTSIDE INTERNET ACCESS) because of the latest ActiveX exploit.

... And yet ... AX is going to be in IE7 ...

They won't take out something that everyone uses. You can complain about the capability MS gave you but everyone freaking used it because it was easy and at the time made Java's capabilities really bad. Still , it would be nice if it was gone.

Hey, I don't like ANY web container with OS level access - be it ActiveX or Java. If you can't play nice inside a controlled, secure container, you should be running as a win32. But hey, what do I know?

Java (on a browser, on a mobile, etc) doesn't have OS level access and it doesn't need it either. The problem with ActiveX is that it is effectively a win32 executable ...

If MS invented Java, it would have OS level access. I understand that it IS possible to create a Java applet that has access to the OS via IE. I can't cite where I was told that, but I could probably find it.

It was possible when MS was developing a product called Visual J++ several years ago. That product was scrapped when Sun iniitiated legal action against MS.

Like I said, it is a lot like a deal with the devil. Looks extremely compelling at first and then you get screwed later. Developers used it because it was easy.
