interesting quote:
i know that Shane's gonna say that he's already had full tivo style video capturing on his WHITEBOX for a long time now. and that he burns his programs RIGHT THERE onto DVD on the whitebox with no limitations. :wink:To date, users generally have been unable to send copied programs to another device, although some digital recorders include "burners" that allow programs to be copied to a DVD and played elsewhere.
TiVo wants to make copies more portable, in stages. Sometime this fall, the company plans to roll out a system that will allow programs to be transferred from the TiVo box to a computer via a small device attached to the PC.
:P
Exactly ... seems they are trying to fight something that is already possible. But I guess this time, the lemmings will be able to do it.
Well, ReplayTV has been able to do this for a LONG time ... and of course ALL whitebox users can.
The Tivo is the "dumbasses" PVR and giving them the ability to move stuff around simply won't appeal to the masses (Hey, I could be wrong, but how often does THAT happen?) - cable/sat boxes aren't even bothering - instead sucking *&%$ of the cable companies like HBO making sure you can NEVER do anything with your recordings
