Year Disc to Starving Student Script Beta

Well, it took me some of last night and all day to do it, but I'm good to my word.

This script will assist in converting your existing Year CD/DVD collection into the Starving Student Edition. This takes all the show MP3s, renames them and ID3 tags them. As a bonus, it sorts them into yearly directories and breaks the collection up into 2 CDs, ready for burning. This allows for easy usage in your mp3 player at home or in your car.

Some serious sh*t right? I almost used Norton Batch Enhancer ....

Shame XCopy was a bust and I had to use that XXcopy.

Shane, sorry to be the one to tell you this, but there are some oddities with the ID3 tagging when using the script.

For example, I'll just look at one file here, 2004-12-01.mp3 (I've only checked a few).

    ID3v1 Title = RetroGaming Radio December 200
    ID3v2 Title = RetroGaming Radio Year 6
    ID3v1 Album = RetroGaming Radio Year 6
    ID3V2 Album = RetroGaming Radio Year 7

Most players now use the ID3v2 tags, so a whole year of MP3s end up with the same title in your library instead of the monthly titles they 'should' have (? - personally I'd rather they were similar to the filename, so this one would be titled 'RGR 2004-12-01' so its easier to find a particular show in the library)

Album titles are presumably just a missed edit when you've copy n pasted.

You'll no doubt be pleased to know that iTunes isn't showing the extended info either (please don't hit me - it's my wife's iPod, honest, she couldn't resist the shiny gold thing...)

Hmmm.... I'll have to back and take another look.

You're saying the ID3v1 and v2 tags are showing DIFFERENT information?

Correct. As detailed above, the v2 tag that most modern MP3 players use is listing the show year, not the show month. Every episode in Year 6 ends up with the same title - 'Year 6' (paraphrasing)

    I don't use tags so I haven't checked those.

On my Year1-5DVD it did the conversion and renaming just fine on XP SP2.

    Happy Days.

Once I get Years 1-5 (thank God you emailed my Paypal email to say you shipped it, now I'm expecting it any day now), I'll use the script.

BTW, how do you make batch files if you're not the best possible person to make that kind of thing (ie if coding sucks for you, at least until something better comes along)? I was thinking of doing some majorly cool stuff (like a batch file that made running DOSBox using a particular config [ie you don't want to run D-Fend] that much easier). I need to make some serious batch files, mainly because I want to automate most of my things (including ROM hacking i know i ain't supposed to talk about that here).

Also, what is the difference about using the year, especially if you got some of the extras and all of the shows (for at least Year 6) to the hard drive (using the "open" feature, not the Autoplay...)?

WTH? How did an episode of Security Now! and an episode of 4 Color Rebellion get into the RGR script?? Those WILL be deleted when it becomes done...

    BJ

Edit: Jesus R. Christ, it seems that ALL my MP3 files are being redone, and not just my RGR MP3s. WTH?
