Good god. It's out selling everyother system combined. I am suprised at the software sales, Animal Crossing outselling Mario Kart.

"Consider the improbable is possible"
I'm actually in Japan right now on vacation, and I can confirm that the Nintendo handshelds rule the roost here. Walking into a gaming store, DS and GBA games take up a huge amount of shelf space... tons of advertising for upcoming games, new colours and versions of the DS, etc... the PSP is typically hidden somewhere on a small shelf with basically no visibility, if it is even available. I've seen tons of DS commercials on TV, but not a single PSP.
The only bummer is that the DS games are more expensive than back home so I haven't picked up any of the more interesting ones.![]()
I was here for the XBOX360 launch too. Quite a big push actually, both in print advertising and TV. Haven't actually spotted anyone buying one yet...Most gaming stores (or even department store electronic sections) have a demo unit set up to play with. My feeling is that the PS3 is pretty much unstoppable in Japan. Contrary to some feelings in another thread, backwards compatibility with the PS2 is HUGE. A typical apartment in Japan is smaller than you can even imagine and living space is at a premium. The PS2 has a incredible market penetration here. Everyone I've talked to will be moving to the PS3 so they can play their old favourite games + the news ones, but only need one system hooked up to their TV.
Those DS values are surreal. Dang... Nintendo owns Japan.... that is... until the PS3 comes out mind you.Originally Posted by Zaphod
