Given my post asking if anyone has donated (http://www.monroeworld.com/forums/sh...68&postcount=1) and the 549 views, and 48 responses, not ONE person has claimed to have donated. Sad really.

    Priorities.

I could go on, but choose to leave it as it stands - it really will not matter what I say - And I can be quite the dumbass.
I think the main problem is that the thread in question rather quckly got off subject, and that became the focus of the thread. The fact that it's in the F&FB forum doesn't help matters either. On my own part, I've never gave to the organization you mentioned, but I have tried my best to help out those I personally know who've served, such as the former diesel mechanic I helped get a job at my firm a couple of months ago after he had returned from Iraq, or my sister-in-law, whose husband is currently over there. However, lets not get this thread off track and spoil the chance of others to get in on Shane's offer.

This is not bait, just how the situation makes me feel.
Re-read what he said, it's the year 5 DVD, not the Year 1-5 Archive Collection DVD. It's basicly like a $14.95 discount to the five fortunates who react first to the offer. Like I said, it's an incentive, just like the chance at beta testing, receiving a pre-release of the finished version, and chance to voice what we think they should work on next being offered by the people behind DAPHNE, almost every group that functions by donation offers incentives.

As for Shane's "partisanship and frankly - bribery" in this, he made that crystal clear in his very first post here, so I really don't see why it's an issue. It isn't like he's holding a gun to anyone's head or threatening that he'll not be your friend if you don't give up da' money, just that he wants us to do him a good turn with the promise that he'll do us one in return.

(I would also like to point out that I don't even have a GP2X... yet, so very few of those incentives really do anything for me, I just like helping out the Emu scene ).

EDIT: Heh. I HATE my ISP! Took me five minutes to write this post, and nearly three times that to log back on after it booted me off.

Thanks ... I shouldn't even answer posts so early in the morning - I tend to be more cranky first thing in the AM.

The honest truth is - until now, I've NEVER given anything back to Daphne. Sure, I've been a beta tester ... Given some feedback. Helped promote the product via the show, etc. But to give something MONEY is a different deal to me - and while I have no problems doing it in the form of buying shareware, etc. - I've often had a problem trading cash for emulation (Flare, references please) as I feel that emulation authors are really riding the coattails of those before them - they didn't make the original hardware, they didn't make the original game; it seems plaguristic at BEST to ask for cash to pay for an emulator. However, I can tell you that I better understand the DONATION drive for emulation better now than ever before with the GP2x and after talking to Matt (the Daphne dude - he's going to come on the December show too and talk about it I think) I have a better understanding of "Donations for Emulation" and I'm much more eager to support it (generally speaking - not just for Daphne but for other people trying to port things to the GP2x). I still don't believe in - don't pay, don't play. Emulation cash should always be an optional expenditure. I'm sure Matt will talk more about this on the show - it might make more sense coming from the horse's mouth.

Rarely do I use my resources to promote stuff directly. I've NEVER plugged for compensation - nor would I - that's why I don't accept advertising (and believe me - I've been approached by MANY people that want to put ads in the show and EVEN IN THIS FORUM). I paid FULL price for my GP2x. I've encourages the DVD sales to fund the show - not to line my pocket. Hell, my coworker right next to me can't figure out why I'm not making money hand over fist on this show ... he's like "Dude, have me on the show. If you don't want money, I'll take the money". Seriously.

The DVDs are as far as I've ever asked for money or donations - and you get a damn decent product for the cash (I think - maybe I'm wrong). While I'm helping myself a bit getting Dragon's Lair on my GP2x - I'm also helping out Team Daphne (good folks that feel even more guilty than I do asking for money) who have always been fans and supporters of the show as well as other people who would really love Pocket Dragon's Lair.

Anyway, I'm kinda done with my side of this. I wanted to take another moment to talk about it now that I'm more awake and functioning a bit more clearly.

Ok, now I'm afraid to even ask. I just want to say Shane, I'd be happy to help you help someone else. I'm not experienced in Paypal, although I do have, I think, $22 or so in my paypal account last time I checked. I have no use for it, whatsoever. Now, do I need some sort of bank account for a paypal transaction to work? That's like the first dumb question of the morning I'm asking. I'm sure I do. Like I said, never used this paypal account. But I would like to help out anyway I can, whether you're offering something or not. Tell you what, let me get back to you on this paypal thing, and I'll find out just what the bloody hell is going on so I don't look like an idiot....like now.

Yep, it did guide me well...until it said I need to add my credit or debit card, which I don't have, and can't get. I'm sorry, bro. I really did want to help out.

If you have money in the paypal account already, then you don't need the card.

I gave $15 just because I knew where the money was going, I like the Daphne guys, and I would love to play on the 2x. When Shane interviewed the Daphne guys (or guy) on the show they seemed really cool and they wern't emu people that thought the scene owed them so much, at least that is how they came off to me.

I didn't donate to the USO as posted in the other thread because I really have no idea where my money is going. I always donate my old clothing to Goodwill and my girlfriend and I always pick some angels from the angle tree, or which ever thing she picks, and we get a bunch of clothing for some kids. Sure I feel bad that many will get left out but I can only help so much and that was, same with the Daphne donation, I know exactaly where my money went.

I have a lot of trouble donating to ORGANIZATIONS in the form of cash. WAY too many ways to screwed over (and I'm not going to spend hours researching them).

We make charitatble donations all year round - including the Fraternal Order of Police, local humane societies/ferret shelters, Big Brothers/Big Sisters (in the way of used clothing, furniture, toys, etc), and a few others ... But I have to be able to basically hand someone the check (or stuff). The more red tape that gets between the donator and the needy, the more money is scraped off.

That's definitely good stuff, although not what I was looking for ...

I'm sure I smacked around shareware emulators at some point ...
