    DS - dead pixels

Has anybody noticed any dead pixels on your DS? Mine is brand new and there's already one on the touch screen You can't really see it in the DS menu screens, but when you switch to a game, there's a light blue 'dot' right in the middle of the screen that never goes away.

I've never seen one 'appear' after a time - 2 of 6 DSes have had dead pixels that I've purchased. The retailer took them both back NO problem - and I never had to return one to Nintendo.

Best way to see one is to boot the Metroid demo .. there is a long period with a black screen that shows the pixel well.

Exchanged the first DS for another one today. Got the second one home and it has a dead pixel on the touch screen too. I'm contemplating whether to try and exchange it once again and risk getting a 3rd defective one and possibly a dead pixel on the top screen next time, or just grin and bare it, since I don't really notice it during gameplay anyway. From reading some Usenet posting, looks like quality control's pretty piss-poor over at Nintendo.

Still, that's no reason to put up with a defective unit!

    Swap it til it works!

You sound like an English person!

Tell you what, when you take it back to swap it, apologise to them for the trouble you caused!

Bhahahaha , why do we do that?

"I'm sorry about the change" when you hand over a bunch of quids is another one.

As for the dead Pixel problem I'm on my first and only DS that I bought on launch day, no problems so far. Even the hinge which I thought would give out is still the same as it was when I got it.

Worknman, you are having THE worst luck ever!

Here is what I would recommend ...

Go back and exchange it AGAIN. If you get a third bad one (which by my personal statistics appears to be impossible) then you send it back to Nintendo and have it repaired - possibly put another DS on a credit card to "rent" for a month while its being fixed, then return that bitch when your own unit comes back.

The other option (which also sounds good) is, get your money back from that store, go to ANOTHER store and buy the third one. MAYBE that store got a FULL LOT of bad DSes and you're going through the whole shipment.

What model are you getting? The second generation Silvers? With no metroid or pack in?

I recommend WalMart for your next purchase if you go that way. Those bitches take ANYTHING back without comment.

I'm sorry your experience has been such .... SH*T.

I'll probably go this route, though since Nintendo will supposedly fix/replace them during the warranty period, I might just keep it until after Xmas (at which time I'll be on the road some and will have a use for the DS), then send it in. I don't really want to "rent" one on a credit card though.

EDIT: There seems to be a pattern with both of the DS's I had. The first game I popped in was NES classic Castlevania (GBA), and I tried that on both screens without a problem. It wasn't until I popped in Mario Kart DS that I noticed the dead pixel (different colors in different spots on both DS's.) I think I'll try it in reverse next time - Mario Kart first, Castlevania second

Yeah, I've gotten two of them from two different Target stores, and they were both bad. There's a third one also near my house, so I'll try that one next

I don't really know what model - neither of them had the Metroid demo. The first one was the titanium one, and the second one was electric blue.

Well, if you recall from the other thread, I originally got the DS because it was $30 cheaper at Target due to the catalog misprint, so if I bought one at Wal-Mart, I'd be back up to the original price of $130. I'm just not ready to pay that much for a handheld entertainment device. (Though looking back, if I could've gotten a good one the first time, the extra $30 probably would've been better than having to take multple DS's back to the store).
