    Great C64 Games?

I recently purchased a C64 at the CGE 2005 and have absolutely no software for it yet.

I'd like to ask all of you what you think would be a good start for me; Games and Utilities, etc.

I am really into Adventure, RPG and really off-the-wall type of games.

I don't play sports games or RTS type games at all.

    I recommend the following games:

    • Hover Bover
    • Realms Of Impossibility
    • Forbidden Forest
    • Dino Eggs
    • Ultimate Wizard
    • Legacy Of The Ancients
    • Psi-5 Trading Co.
    • G.I. Joe
    • Archon
    • Karateka
    • Frogger
    • Bruce Lee
    • Gateway To Apshai
    • Raid Over Moscow
    • Castle Wolfenstein
    • Impossible Mission
    • Tenth Frame Bowling
    • DeathSword
    • Slinky

    In that order*...

Seeing as you're into Adventures, then just about any level 9 test adv.

    return to eden
    emerald isle
    etc

    the hobbit of course

an unusual one I have if you can find it is

    Denis through the drinking glass

where you play denis thatcher the alcoholic husband of margaret thatcher.

an unusual srcade game that i love and play at least a couple of times a week is

    survivor

don't know what it is about it I just love it. I guess it takes it's inspiration from bosconian but plays much better than that on the C64.

Has nobody played Rana Rama? It's one of my all time favorite games, pure genius and I've recently tried it on the C64 as well, it's very well done, a worthy port from the Spectrum.

Legacy of the Ancients: Da Bomb

Mars Saga: Great futuristic RPG in which your combat orders are carried out in real time in several second phases. Nice.

Questron: Oldie but goody RPG lite

Magic Candle: If you can handle the parser - awesome RPG thats deep in ways that boggle the mind - split parties, job skills, etc

    Wasteland: Da bomb

Panther: Zaxxonish game with really nice music

Last Ninja II: Hard as balls, but perhaps the best C64 music/graphics ever written!

    Skate Rock: Old school fun/music

Eliminator: 3D road scroller - mem based but very well done; shame on Shane for never hearing of it!

Force 7: Kinda like "Aliens" meets "Gauntlet"

    -----------------------------------------------------

Just a start for you. I could come up with a top 100 easily...

Oh I remember I kept waiting for this game to be released on the NES (after I saw it previewed first by the Game Players mag. I don't think it was ever released.
