Well, I don't know what they hell they were thinking ... I'm sure they were under a lot of pressure to ship 9; but that's no excuse.

"Consider the improbable is possible"
How to get 9.01? I just downloaded from Opera.com and it says 9.00.
Also, do you or anybody else have a fully loaded filter.ini for this realease, or do they still use filter.ini ?![]()
You have to go to the link I provided to download 9.01 - it is a "weekly build".
They use something called urlfilter.ini now. I can send you mine if you like.

(Thought about installing Radmin, but she's on dialup, plus I dunno if can get that running through the firewall with no way to test it up there.)
It is very stable. NO crashes since I installed it. 9.0 had several crashes.

"Consider the improbable is possible"
Shane, question.
I installed Opera 9, and I thought it was going to install it on top of the BETA version I've been using for some time.
Well it didn't; it kept the other one around, and the problem is, all of my settings and custom searches didn't get transferred.
Is there a subfolder or file in the Opera 9 BETA folder that could contain all of this so I can just easily move it from there on to the Opera 9 folder?
This would also help me for when I happen to format my computer, I can save these settings so I don't have to make them all over again.
Well, you probably changed installation types when you installed. Went from SINGLE USER to MULTI USER or vice versa. This changes where the PROFILE information is kept.
In a SINGLE USER environment, it is kept INSIDE the Opera folder in the PROFILE directory.
In a MULTI USER environment, it is kept in the C:\Documents and Settings\<your nt username>\Application Data\Opera folder (which is hidden unless you're using like Directory Opus or you physically unhide the Application Data folder).
My guess is, you now have BOTH. So, the question is - which is your REAL data; the local PROFILE folder, or the Application Data folder? Once you realize which one is which, just overwrite the other profile with your own.
Probably the easiest way to determine this is to look each folder's SEARCH.INI file and see if your custom searches are at the end.
Good luck!

Got it. I could see that the file with my custom searches is located in the "Documents and Settings Folder", inside Opera 9 BETA. I copied it onto Opera 9 and now it's all there.
Now, this thing with SINGLE and MULTI user; that's intriguing, because that was my second question.
I'm not even sure how this is decided. Is this a setting in "options"?
Reason I ask is; I have two login names in my Windows machine; I connect using my network user when I'm at work, but I log on as the administrator when I'm at home; in order not to get all the pre-installed work-related s***t loaded, since I don't need them.
Right now; it's quite annoying that because I'm running MULTI user, at home I don't have the custom searches, bookmarks and stuff that I create while being at work.
But then again, I always prefer to have settings stored in "Documents and Settings" instead of "Program Files".
I tried moving everything from my current user to the All users subfolder, but sadly; Opera doesn't work that way. I think it should see that I'm using the profile in All users instead of an individual, but it doesn't, too bad.
Looks like my only alternative is to switch to single user, and keep the profile in the Program Files folder. Do you think this can be done now or do I have to re-install?
Look in operadef6.ini ... There is a MultiUser key. Change that to 1, I guess. Make sure Opera isn't running, and you have a profile backup, just in case
Honestly, I always go Single User. I don't like Important Data(tm) in MS-centric hidden folders. You sound like a "single user" scenario to me. Multi-User doesn't make sense.

Hmm... it's strange, the Multi key is set to 1. Maybe it should be set to 0? I'll investigate.
Anyway, Shane I wanted to ask you another question, this time about using Opera at work.
For the longest time, the IT people here allowed for surfing without going through the proxy. Now they locked it down and I have to play by their rules.
My annoyance is that now everytime I open Opera and start surfing, I get this prompt asking for my network user and password; I saved it so I don't have to type it, but I hate that it keeps popping up.
In IE, there's an advanced option to have this not appear; I can't find this in Opera.
Do you know if I can get rid of it? Have it take the user and password without prompting.
