Dang. I was a subscriber and nver got the ZZAP64 issue. I only ended up getting about half of the issues too. It's too bad they have folded. I *really* looked forward to reading it each month.

Damn sad news. I've got every issue of RG magazine, and even subscribed to PC Action Emulate as well. That ran for just one issue (essentially everything to be said about emu was pretty much in that issue, so they shot their bolt IMO), so I then transferred my remaining subscription to RG, and now that's gone!! Ah well.

I've pre-ordered the CD so good luck to those folks in keeping the memory alive. I agree with previous posts that there should be an adequate market for a retro mag. Maybe a multimedia disc format would be the best, and help ensure costs don't kill the project.

Incidentally, why doesn't the US have RG-type magazines? However, thanks for RGR, Shane - it's brilliant! I ordered the year 6 DVD today (already had the year 1-5 DVD). I have to confess, I'm a bit of a retro addict, and recently bought a combined JAMMA/PC MAME cabinet, into which I've added a 400GB slave HD and wireless Net access. The HD is filled with every emu you could imagine, including fruit machines (UK) and pinball machines. It's the end result of a couple of years project of mine. I love this stuff :-)

(I have no affiliation whatsoever with the company that sold me this, in case anyone is wondering! However, it's the best I could find short of getting a JAMMA-only Taito Egret cabinet, so I thought the photo might be of interest).

Looks as though it has been bought by Imagine and will be back in December.

I might be able to transfer my subscription after all, then ;-)

There are rumours that even though it has been bought by another company they are going to give current subscribers three free issues and a discount if they subscribe again.

Sweet. Do they have a mailing list? All I saw was a snail mail address, which is like soooo 1850s ;-)

The new Retro Gamer is due out 4th December. Darran Jones, the current editor of GamesTM magazine's retro section will be at the helm and many of the old freelance staff will be contributing again.

No news yet on what'll happen to GamesTM retro now that Darran is leaving. He's responsible for a large part of the content as well as editor.

If they do that I may consider subscribing again. I'm a little gun shy after getting burned on the last one. 3 free issues is a good sign of faith. I do realize that they in no way had anything to do with the demise of live publishing, but at the same time given the magazines they sell (seem to be very niche) it's possible the same could happen to them.

Very, very glad to see it's coming back. Also glad that they are doing away with the CD. I have yet to even open one.
