    Retro Gamer Is No More

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings... but I'm afraid Retro Gamer the magazine is no more.

Live publishing went into liquidation on monday, all their publications have ceased. their message board has been shut down and the new issue will not hit the stands as it was supposed to yesterday.

Well. It was fun while it lasted.

Aparently there will be a new retro game magazing being launched in the UK in November. This is just a rumor from another forum of course...

    It will be missed

thanks for letting us know beccy, damn shame. Im just wondering if its possible for another publisher to pick up the rights for the magazine and keep the same team.

well, the rumors are that games tm's retro section will be becoming a magazine in it's own right. I've been chatting around and it seems that some people are getting a letter writing campange going to tell future publishing that there is a market for it.

When I know more I'll let you know with links ect.

I think ZX beccy said it in an earlier thread, Retro gamer magazine did go slightly down hill, as was mentioned reviewing games because they looked retro, mobile phone games and TV games and they started to do more regular features but ones that were'nt that interesting. But it was still one of the best magazines on the shelf. The last issue was the highest selling so far.

The problem for live publishing was that although it was the jewel in the crown in thier portfolio, the crown was made up of very, very average magazines im sure anyone who's read PC action EMULATE will agree (boob jokes, google image search picture with website names still attached, wrong dates etc). People on Ebay are going to have a field day selling off copies of RGM.

As for a magazine based on the GamesTM Retro section, I'd be all for that.

crap. I didn't want this to happen so suddenly. JUST ONE MORE ISSUE.

And, what are the chances of my subscription being refunded?

    It must be true.

Search ebay they are quoting that it is now rare.

If only you could find things on Ebay that are rare.

Hi All, Here's some info that was posted on a MB I'm a member of:

I was a freelancer on RG.

We hadn't been paid in months and we weren't given any warning about the change back to bi-monthly or the administration.

    However, all is not lost...

Rumours are going around that a new retro mag will start in November. There's the regular retro section in gamesTM. And the ex-freelancers from Retro Gamer are working on a project as well...
Which leads to http://forum.retrosurvival.co.uk and ...

Welcome to the new Retro Survival message board.

As you are probably aware if you found your way here, Live Publishing (publishers of the excellent Retro Gamer magazine) went into administration on Monday 22nd August. The staff of Retro Gamer left the company, and no further issues of the magazine will be published.

We're all very upset by the demise of Retro Gamer. Unfortunately, Live also owed most of the freelancers money for articles that had either been published over the final few issues, or that had been written for inclusion in issue 19 or later. These articles will sadly never see the light of day in RG.

However, all is not lost. A large group of RG freelancers have grouped together and created this web site and discussion board with the title of "Retro Survival." We plan to do two things here:

    1. We are putting together a CD or DVD that will contain all of the unpublished articles that had been written for RG. It will also contain a large number of articles from past issues of Retro Gamer, many of which are substantially larger than the versions that made it into print. We hope that the disc will be a popular item and are sure that it'll be packed with fantastic retro material both old and new.

We are planning to sell this for a low price (perhaps about the same as an issue of RG itself) once it's ready and hope that lots of you will be interested in purchasing a copy. All proceeds from the disc will be put towards paying the RG freelancers the money that they were owed by Live Publishing.
    Regards, smarty.
