My late grandfather had the Temple of Apshai Trilogy for commodore 64. I played it several times but never got far. Which three games are in it ,how do it relate to Gateway of Apshai, and does it have and ending?

I vaguely remember playing Temple of Apshai back in the early 1980's. I am pretty sure there is an end to each game. The Apshai games were pretty basic RPG's with not a lot of depth to them, Better RPG games on C64 were: The Phantasie trilogy, Wizards Crown series, and the Forgotten Realms D&D Goldbox trilogy (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, and Secret of the Silver Bades). Hell I think Telengard was a better RPG than Temple of Apshai.
The trilogy started with Temple of Apshai, with add-ones Upper Reaches of Apshai and Curse of Ra. The trilogy release collected the three together, improved graphics and sound and added new content. Gateway to Apshai was more action oriented and acted as a prequel to Temple.

Such awesome games. Still have my C64 cart laying around somewhere.

Temple of Apshai's Innkeeper haggling code was the first time I'd REALLY wanted to know "how something worked". Temple was done in a hybrid BASIC with ASM subroutines, so the code was viewable.
At the time, I couldn't make sense of the Innkeeper's algorithms. I wonder if I could now?
Gateway is still one of the consummate dungeon crawlers for me.

I've heard whispers of a Rogue-like dungeon crawler being developed for this year's cartridge coding competition (look it up at http://www.rgcd.co.uk ) so that may tempt you back to the C64 for some more exploring...
