    Almost there with the WII

    Ok.

In January, I started to mod my Wii and wound up at the bottom of this thread: http://www.monroeworld.com/forums/sh...dropped/page62

Right after that, life kicked-in and I had to turn my attention elsewhere. A couple weeks ago, I got sick and took a couple days off from work during which time I contemplated what to do about the Wii. I have come to the conclusion that I do NOT have to drive to Phoenix, knock on Shane's door, drop to my knees, work the shaft and swallow the gravy followed by Shane fixing my Wii with a gun to his head. Gentlemen, I've seen pictures of Shane. I did not want to do this. Nope, that's not gonna have to happen. BUT, I am going to need a little more help.

So, I went back and thought about this critically. The Wii would start up and I had USB Loader GX, the Gamecube Backup Launcher and the Homebrew Channel. Whenever I tried to start USB Loader GX, the system would lock up. At that point, I figured, "Ok, so I'll just presume the actual mod was successful", because I had the apps and the Homebrew Channel actually worked without freezing or anything. So, I figured maybe my USB Loader GX install was corrupt or something. Sure enough, USB Loader GX was up to version 3. So I went to the USB Loader GX site and figured out how to upgrade and VOYLAY! USB Loader GX would start up.

Next was getting my USB hdd to work properly. I had bought a 500gig Western Digital Passport external usb hdd. For usage compatibility, I simply formatted the drive to FAT32, (hard to do on Windows 7 these days, so had to use Linux), and dumped a /WBFS/ directory on it - and nothing else. I hooked up the drive and it would look for the hardware, but never find it. So, I looked in the USB Loader GX settings and set it to use cIOS 223 - which I read online that 222 or 223 is required when using a FAT32 partition. BIN-FUCKING-GO, the drive was indeed discovered. (On a side note, every other time or so, the drive is not detected and I have to hard-reboot the Wii a couple times for it to work.) At this point, I am able to backup and play my Wii games off of the external USB hard drive.

So I just have a handful of things to clean up:
    1. My wifes Karaoke Revolution games won't work. I've read online that they require a specific IOS and that there is a way to specify, (in USB Loader GX), which IOS is used on a per-game basis. I have not been able to find out how to do this with USB Loader GX 3. Does anybody know how to do this?
    2. I've backed up all of my Gamecube Games. Gamecube Backup Launcher does not work. How can I play my Gamecube games?
    3. Is there a way to play Gamecube Games with the Wiimote/Classic Controller?
    4. A handful of my games have two discs. TMNTs discs both have the same name, so it won't let me install the second disc. Doe sanybody have any experience with this? Other games where I installed both discs - will I have a problem finishing these games?

    Thanks in Advance.

About #1... I remember having to use a bit of voodoo to get the USB keyboard dongle to work with Rock Band 3 (something about a custom CIOS I believe), so I assume a mic on Karaoke Revolution would be similar. Unfortunately, it has been over a year since I messed with any of that stuff, so I have forgotten everything. But I might have posted the solution here in the Wii hacking thread, if you want to look. I do remember that RB3 was a bitch to get working, as was COD5. Some games just aren't worth the trouble, IMO.

It has to do with multiple USB devices. I believe you have to use very specific versions of CIOS (Hermes CIOS is supposed to be what you have to use).

And yes, you can set up mulitple CIOS loaders and then assign the IOS on a per game basis. It was a huge pain in the ass as I recall - and I'm not completely sure how I ended up making it work.
