I think the military is great for people (like myself) who lacked direction out of high school. Being in the Marines made me focus on getting my degree because I realized that the military life was not for me and there was no way I would have lasted 20 years in the Marines. In the end it was a mutually beneficial arrangement. The military paid 75% of my tutition while I was active duty and I was stationed at a base that allowed me to go to class at night for 4 years.

The last year or two I was in the military I was always counting the days until I was free to leave. Now I look back on those days as some of the best times of my life. It's funny how your perspective on life changes over the years. Anyways, I am glad I joined the Marines. It was good for me. That's not to say it is good for everyone.
