Dual casting? One speall and weapon? Armor or mage's robes?

I think it all depends on who you are fighting and each situation. It's easier to bludgeon enemy mage's when they're firing fire or frost at you. And it is better to hit fire mages with frost, and frost mages with fire. I've been fighting fire mages today and hitting them with fire does very little damage. Dual casting definitely gives you more power. Mage's robes give you more power, but if you're fighting enemy's with weapons you are very vulnerable.
I find that the more I do, the more I level up. Everything from getting lessons, buying and selling, etc. I think the game rewards you if you try different things and get out of your comfort zone. Switch from magic to weapons in the middle of combat. Experiment with different spells during a fight. I finally was able to conjugate a dead body to fight for me in the middle of a battle, and I immediately got a point reward in conjugation (going from 19 to 20).
My biggest frustration this point is that during the heat of battle, I accidentally can push both thumbstick buttons just enough to switch to sneak mode or switch to third person. I am getting to the point where it would be nice to program those commands to the D-Pad or something else.

Funniest and most frustrating battle so far, I encountered this a-hole:
This jerk walks up to you and challenges you to a wizard's duel in the MIDDLE of the friggin' city. Unfortunately, even if you say no, he STILL fights you. And I found him in Winterhold, where unlike here, the guards DON'T intervene! Thanks, guards, the moment I actually need your help you DON'T help!
The problem was my mage skills weren't really up to par so a wizard's duel was really out of the question. And BOY is he overpowered. He just WAILS on you with every spell in the book, killing you within seconds. He killed me about a dozen times until eventually I cheated my way out of the fight. I snuck up on him and daggered him so that when the fight starts he's low on health. Then I cast a summon so he could fight my Storm Atronarch. This is cheating of course because he doesn't want you using summons or melee weapons... but I might as well do it because HE USES MELEE HIMSELF!
AGGHHH! Glad he's dead.
So, I put in another 3 or 4 hours on this game (PC version with 360 pad).
I can honestly say - It is Red Dead Redemption: Fantasy Edition. That's not a BAD thing (loved RDR), but to call this something fantastic, GOTY, different, etc.? Nah .. more of the same. Great graphics, etc? Sure. But in the end, it's RDR, right down to gathering up flowers and herbs (and it's wolves instead of cougars ... heh).
So ... fun? Yes. Will I keep playing? Yes. But, in the end - it's RDRThank Rockstar for giving you the winning formula. Thank Bethesda for the graphics.

Giants suck.
BTW, anyone playing a dude? I'm curious if the companion you get assigned (for becoming a Thane) is a man or woman? Mine is Lydia and I still have her with me (she's died more times that I care to say, thank god I save a lot).
I hope I burn out of this soon - like I did on RDR. It's sucking time from my life![]()

I'm not a road traveler. I rarely use roads (gets me into trouble) and I've managed to see some great glitches.
I like how as long as there is any sort of texture on the face of a cliff, you can walk along it. I was doing some serious Criss Angel shit cutting across the country.

Yeah, my character is a guy and I got assigned Lydia too. I use her to carry loot, mostly.
