    My first Android App :D

Ok, every couple of years I get the bug to do some coding. My last outbreak got me into programming on the PocketPC and my best project was MameCE3.

This time of course I picked the great Android platform. The best way I could think to learn a lot of techniques was to build an App for the Company I work for. This also nets me 'Boss points' So here is the almost completed DSC App project.
It's basically a Promotional tool for the company but it has lots of different views and stuff that made me figure out how to build stuff.
I''d appreciate if some of you folks could load it up and give it a whirl and let me know what you think. The only thing not done is the Services tab which I'm working on this weekend.

    Well back to coding.

I checked it out and it ran fine on my G2 phone. Not a bad app for your first Android project. I took an android programming class over the summer and I need to play around with the platform some more. Did you use Eclipse to code this? That's what we used in class with the official Android SDK integrated into the IDE.

Yea I'm using Eclipse with the SDK. I don't do well in class room environments, I like to jump right in and start figuring things out.

Installed it on my tablet (Acer Iconia).

I'm guessing that this is more or less a "Hello World"? As it's really not populated with much at this point and there is nothing to do. Other than tap the 3 bars at the top and go to the separate windows. The second being blank and the third has google maps with the "local" directions. You have to go to a much wider view to figure out what state it's in, etc.

    But it's a start....keep playing.

Well yea it's a bit more complex than a Hello world app, just getting the tabs functionality to work was tricky because they deprecated the function and replaced it with fragments which are still a little funky on older devices.

I did mention it was more of a Sales tool for the office. It did allowed me to experiment with tabs, Relative Views, List Views, using the Google maps integration etc. My biggest problem with programming is coming up with unique ideas to work on. I think hey maybe this, and then I realize its been done by such and such.
I do have fun with it for a while and then I get bored and go back to gaming.

They only have to be unique to you. And create your own implementation of it. I've done Space Invaders that way. So for me it was in the discovery of the implementation. You can do "unique" later as your knowledge and skills improve.
