The Indie Music Thread (Hipster Music)

Feel free to share and discuss indie music or just underground bands you are a fan of. Perhaps we can get a thread going where praise certain artists instead of the Justin Bieber and Gaga threads we have going :P
So I will start off with this Canadian band I recently discovered. Saw them live twice this year and they put on an amazing live show.

    And

I know I am probably alone in terms of this type of music but maybe we can share some new music to some members.
    Anyways, share what you got.

Well, these aren't indie rock, but whatever

Power Pirate (these kids are still in high school):

Ronald Jenkees FTW - guy had about 3 months of 'formal' training on keys:

    Nemesea:

    Psychostick (explicit lyrics)

Ronald is a beast. Wish I could write music like him. I play keys in a band currently
Power Pirate is O.K. Sounds a bit generic in my opinion but that's just me. No denying they are talented though

You think? Other than possibly Nemesea, I don't know of any other band that sounds like them. Most rock bands that incorporate keys (that aren't progressive/power metal), tend to drift into the symphonic territory, whereas Power Pirate is more electronic, which is why I like them. I hope they stick together... they definitely have a lot of room to grow. And if the dude playing keys isn't boning at least one of those two chicks, he should be ashamed

Not indie, hipster, or even underground but this band saved me from suicide earlier this year.

The band that almost caused it (j/k). Joy Division are far from underground but a surprising number of people (including myself about a year ago) still don't know about them.

Just getting into New Wave. Found this lone 12 from 83 posted on a blog and couldn't stop listening to it. It was their only release, unfortunately.

    Dark electronica from Switzerland. 1985.

    French Coldwave from 1990.

    Currently into Ed Sheeran (http://www.edsheeran.com)

But one of my favourite "indie" acts of all time is M.J. Hibbett (with and without the Validators). He's familiar to a lot of geeks for his song "Hey Hey 16K" that was turned into a brilliant animation by Rob Manuel of B3ta. But there's a lot more to MJ than that. I think he truly represents the spirit of indie - running his own record label (Artists Against Success), touring small venues, selling his own records after the gig and writing about what he wants to write about. I'm also lucky to consider him a friend.

Oh man, Second Skin is one of my favorite songs, with Script of the Bridge being one of my favorite albums. I haven't met too many Chameleons fans in my day. Awesome pick.

Wish this had gone further. Little Joy was a project formed during the Strokes' hiatus. It features Fab, the drummer of the strokes, on guitar and vocals.
