There's been some wringing of hands lately from Windows devs about whether MS is going to put .NET/Silverlight on the back burner for Windows 8 in favor of HTML5/Javascript. But imagine if .NET/Silverlight really became first-class citizens in Windows, instead of just a wrapper that sits on top of Win32. I find the concept of using the same code base to target desktop and phone (and maybe even 360) to be quite intriguing. I might consider giving Windows Phone a serious look if I could easily port apps between the two.
Of course, there's always HTML5/Javascript, but those aren't really ready for the desktop (yet). The concept of being able to do things like access hardware devices or the local file system without some bloated middleware getting in the way does not do much to get my nipples hard. With Shane now coding some C# apps, I'm assuming he's not as anti-.NET as he used to be, when he would refer to it as 'Wizard.NET'![]()
