Phones are a whole different animal, since people are tied to contracts in most cases and can't make decisions based on product launches. If I wanted a Windows phone today, I couldn't get one until late next year and by then who knows what else might be out?

MS has sold 55 million Xbox 360s worldwide. They have shipped 10 million Kinect peripherals. Just for the sake of argument, let's assume all of those have sold. That means 18% of your console base owns the Kinect.

Now you are telling me that people will run out and get Windows phones that aren't even branded for use with Kinect, and you'll hope your friends also have Windows phones?

Outside of a tech demo, who would develop games for that? You are talking about a niche market so small that it makes the Neo Geo look like a mainstream console by comparison. If you were a publisher, would you take that risk?
Kinect is an example of the integration, any game can use this. And like I said before, Microsoft can make a cheap ipod touch device that's dedicated to this along with a Windows phone app. If they really wanted they can make android and iphone apps (very unlikely). Heck, developers themselves can implement this without Microsoft. Sony themselves can do this also since they support android.

My whole point is just don't be surprised if you see this functionality out using our cell phones before the Wii U is even released.

The big problem is - even if you're a phone developer (which could be Bob Smith working in his garage on the weekends) you still need a licensed dev kit toting publisher to make the console piece of it.

You'll be able to use the Wii U controller as a motion tracker in Aliens: Colonial Marines. Cool.

See that gives me a stiffie. Big time. The "motion tracker" was the one thing no Aliens game could every QUITE get right. Being an onscreen indicator just never did it for me. This? OMG ... I'm in.
