    Guys,

What was impressive about the Wii U? I'm behind firewalls here at work so I don't have a sense of what the new Wii is all about.

    Thanks,

    Chooka

So basically - Nintendo can do no right for anyone other than soccer moms. You want hardcore games with insane graphics and shit and they delivered it. But NINTENDO EPIC FAIL? WTF people ...

It's basically a controller with a 6 inch screen. It's not a portable console, as it only transmits/receives the video (without lag they said). You can actually switch the tv off and continue your game on the controller. It's the Wii U is backwards compatable with the Wii, and the mote and all it's other stuff. Hopefully the game quality will be on par with the PS3/360 and the price will be reasonable......no announcement on specs or price....just an introduction. And they show how the screen on the wii U can interact seamlessly with the tv screen also...that was interesting.

And that's about it....to sum it up quickly.

The Wii U looks very interesting. I hope the game makers don't play it safe and really push the envelope with it. Here is hoping we only saw the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what you can do with the touch screen controller.

I would--and do when I'm not in the office--but Twitter is blocked at work.

    P.S. No Monroeapalooza this year?

I personally wouldn't call it a EPIC FAIL.....just interesting...not a Vita Killer though......not that they are exactly in the same class either though.

Interesting...thanks. Hmm..with both the PS3/Vita and Wii U offering takeaway gaming I hope this leads to strong support by developers. I take it, though, one has to be in the same house as the Wii U to play on its portable screen.

I guess I'll have to save up now for both the Vita and Wii U. Still not sold on the 3ds at this point but I do love Mario Kart.

    Thanks!!

The thing is Nintendo needs to prove that these hardcore experiences will be made better by the WiiU controller. Just saying "Hey look, we've got Dirt, Arkham City, and Darksiders 2!" is useless because by the time WiiU is out I'll have already played those games on 360. They need to show how those games will use the controller and why that functionality will make it a superior experience, otherwise they just give the impression that they're catching up to what Microsoft and Sony have already been offering for years, which is kind of what that montage felt like.

Now the crazy video they did of all the different ways to use the controller, THAT was cool.

I don't really see it that way. It's more like with this system you can have unique Nintendo-style experiences without having to miss out on traditional, cutting edge games. Personally, I think it would be a mistake for them to take fantastic traditional games and try to shoehorn the additional features in.

I think it's a stretch to say they need to prove that all those features have to be used in every single game.
