Agree...not every single game. I would expect some unique gaming experiences with on the 'U' though. If your making a game for the U, why not redesign it enough to include the new features (redesign != Shoehorn)...they just have to be in a way that makes sense of course. Otherwise you can just get the game on one of the other systems and get a similar experience. More or less.

    I'm calling it now....Wii F U, Coined by me!

(not being negative against the U...just coining the Derogatory name for it first!)

And the Short name......calling it the 'U'

Just catching up on some of the presentations...

Best thing for Microsoft? Cloud storage for game saves and tags, so that means you can play anywhere and log in.

Best thing for Sony? The fact they apologised for the network problems, but I don't think Vita is going to do well.

Best thing for Nintendo? Backwards compatibility.

Did I miss it or did they NOT announce what the Vita will use for Game storage? Is it backwards Compatible? or is it another (cheaper) PSPGo with only digital Distribution?

Because really, if you can't play your old games on it, then it suffers from the same problem as the PSPGo, just cost you $50 less. VITA = FAIL as far as I'm concerned.

Ok I did a little more digging and from the official Q and A here

"Q: What game format will the PS Vita use?
A: PS Vita will utilize the new game medium.

So Another Proprietary Format from Sony. Why am I not surprised.

"Q: I have UMD games but do I need to buy them again from PlayStation Store to play the same game on PS Vita?
A: We will consider every possibility for support on bought UMD games but we have nothing to comment at this point in time."
Yea we saw how they supported that on the PSPGo. So in other words you will have to rebuy all your games.

So the answer is this IS just a Cheaper PSPGo with a new Proprietary slot!
How come everyone is so excited about it? Last year when they released this as the PSPGo, there was almost a lynching mob outside of Sony's Headquarters. I don't get it.
On top of that the Fanboys are saying it will doom the 3DS??? Really? I'm sorry but my head is spinning trying to understand how these people think.

While I think it was a bold move on Sony's part to price VITA competitively with 3DS, I had wondered if they could possibly make any money at $250. Turns out, my question was answered this morning by Kotaku:

I wonder how the "mobile gaming will kill dedicated handhelds" crowd would take this, considering it's not just Nintendo's nuts on the chopping block. This is a huge risk for Sony. While we're looking at longer home console cycles, new handheld devices get introduced almost monthly, making the previous ones look obsolete in comparison. Apple, the company everyone wants to beat, puts a new generation of iOS devices and a new OS out every year, with support for apps dropping in under a year (my launch day iPad couldn't run iMovie when it was announced for iPad 2 only 9 months after I bought it).

Sony chose to go the route they've always gone--they went with tech. But with the way things are going, will VITA's specs still be attractive 3 or even 2 years from now? If you're going to cater to the tech specs crowd as your main draw, you're screwed after the first 12 months.

3DS is already feeling the pain of a generation that doesn't want to carry around another device. They went with a unique gimmick (the glasses-free 3D), and their established gaming franchises as their big draw. Sly Cooper isn't going to cut it for Sony, and you can only release so many Uncharted games. I was intrigued by VITA too and even stated I'd probably buy one, until someone in chat during the conference asked "What games would you get". I didn't have an answer.

The battle lines are drawn, and the tide of $0.99 disposable gaming is incoming like an Angry Bird towards Sony and Nintendo's hiding pigs. Will anyone survive? We'll see.

I've bought almost every system since the 2600--I'm 38--and I'll offer you my personal perspective on the Vita.

First, everyone was surprised at the price. I think everyone was thinking $400 so, for the moment, there is an enthusiasm about the Vita's price point. Heck, I even pre-ordered one after the press conference and I had 0 plans on doing so before the conference.

Second, as a more mature gamer--at least in age--I still prefere games with depth. I own an IPAD 2 and have bought more than my share of .99 - $6 apps and I find them mostly disposable. The idea of playing Call of Duty or Fallout on the Vita is exciting to me. I travel a lot with my job and would enjoy the ability to play these games, especially if they sync up with my PS3 at home. Big if and big $ concerns so we'll see how that plays out.

Third, the tech. I think most folks--just my opinion--were not as "wowed" by the 3d tech of the DS as opposed to the tech of the Vita-- 2 analog sticks, high end screen, touch screen etc. As a tech nerd, I'm just more interested in the Virta's tech than the 3ds.

Fourth, I've owned and enjoyed every Nintendo product made. However, personally, I just prefer "the hardcore" games to the ones I grew up with on Nintendo. I still enjoy Mario Kart and Super Mario but the catalog of games on teh 360 and PS3 just personally interest me more. This affinity is in large part why I didnt buy--yet--a 3ds. I'm more excited about the catalog of Vita games.

Finally, I think Little Big Planet just wowed the audience. It was a great demo, it seems, that pulled together all the neat tech the Vita.

I love all game systems and games in general so I don't want anyone to take my post as a Nintendo vs. X system. Some of the Monroeworld regulars might recall I bought a Wii after playing Boom Bash at Monroeapalloza (is there one this year?) a couple of years ago. I love games.

Great comments Alex. I rarely bring my DS or PSP with me when I'm travelling due to the IPAD. Heck, I almost never bring my lap top due to the IPAD.
So, personally, it's going to take something special (see my other post) to get me back into handhelds.
