E3 isn't the only thing going down next week ...

Apple will be unveiling iOS 5 and 'iCloud' next week (along with the next version of OSX):

I'm hoping that iCloud will be more than just storing music in the cloud, and that iOS 5 has a new notification system. (Actually, when it comes to storing music in the cloud, why not make iTunes actually do something useful and let people stream music straight from their Mac or PC?)

That would go a long way of making iPhone a more viable platform for many of us to consider.

If you can completely remove iTunes and do everything from the cloud, I'll stand up and take notice.

One thing I hope comes from iCloud: cross platform syncs. Developers work hard to please customers by making apps universal (able to work with iPad and iPhone) but then they don't have many options for syncing data between the two. For instance, game saves are transfered between Angry Birds for iPhone and Angry Birds for iPad.

That is currently the rumor. It would make sense, everything else is old at this point.

Yeah, probably so. As unfortunate as it may be, I think any phone/tablet you have that's over two years old is basically a dinosaur. Even if you can technically run the latest OS and apps, you probably wouldn't want to

I am pretty sure we'll get to the point on mobile devices that we are now at with PCs; you can buy a PC and use it for a good 7-8 years, assuming you only do 'the basics' with it. Hell, the P4 I bought in 2002 is still usable for web browsing email, DVD watching, etc. (Even if Flash is slow on it).

I figured it was rumor but it does make sense. Perhaps we 3Gs/3rd Gen Users can get a watered down version like iOS 4 for the 2nd Gen hehe

iOS5/iCloud announced today. iOS5 will have an Android-style notification system, and will have over the air updates and iCloud will let you sync apps/documents/etc across devices:

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's widgets of any kind, but if I don't have to fuck with custom roms to get rid of bloatware, it's a tradeoff I'll gladly accept. If the iPhone5 comes out on Verizon and Google Voice is updated to use the new notification system, I'm all in, unless somebody decides to sell a high-end Android phone with vanilla ice cream sandwich.
