    The iPhone 5

Now that iPad 2 is revealed, all the speculation shifts to iPhone 5. Here's an article from BGR suggesting that the iPhone 5 will ditch the trouble-prone antenna design & form factor of the iPhone 4 and go with something the looks a lot like the 4th gen iPod Touch. The new antenna would be integrated into the aluminum logo on the back (go figure hehe).

Man, I really don't like the rounded back they seem to be shifting to on all their devices. For some reason, it reminds me of the egg-shaped Ford Probe from the 90's hehe. I guess if it results in a better antenna, it's a good trade off.

I gotta tell you one thing, the 4th Gen Touch is a bitch to hold. I am always dropping it due to it's shape and it even fell into my son's bath the other week while it was on. I dried it off and let it sit though and 24 hours later? Not a thing wrong with it. I have to give Apple credit for that.

I really dislike the rounded back like in that pic. The case of the iPhone4 is just so nice looking, I would think that they have be able to get the antenna to work right in there.

I have seen a few rumors about the iPhone5 having a 4" or larger screen...if that is the case deciding between that and the Moto Bionic will be very tough.

Yeah, I have my doubts about that rounded back. I have exactly this much interest *holds thumb & index finger together to indicate "nada"* in continuing a rounded-back design. Also, notice one thing about the iPhone 5 in the mockup above: NO LED FLASH. Not good.

They wouldn't LOSE a feature, so I wouldn't worry about the lack of a flash in that unsourced mock-up.

Lol, they would lose it in a heartbeat if Steve "the Douche" Jobs decides it looks better without the flash, because Form is better than Function don't you know.

Again, while we may not agree with function and design taking equal focus with Apple's products, there's no denying their success with it...

How about front flash then, and I don't mean for the camera but for notifications. It's 2011 Apple.

Reuters is "confirming" that the iPhone 5 will launch in September.

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/...73J0OE20110420

I'm seriously considering making the switch (along with going back to AT&T after a horrible Verizon experience) when my contract is up next year. Fortunately there will be plenty of time to see if iPhone 5 has any antenna-gate like issues before I need to make a decision.

I still enjoy my Droid X for the most part, but in the end I think I enjoy my iPad and Touch more. I have another year to decide, so we'll see.

PS: And they say they're keeping the iPhone 4 form-factor, which I think is a great move--I don't like the bubbled-out shape of the Touch or the iPad.

Presently using both Froyo and the latest version of iOS, I find the difference in user experience on the phones striking. Android has some awesome features that I'd love to see incorporated into iOS, but overall it's not nearly as streamlined as what Apple has come up with. I do believe I personally made the right choice in sticking with iOS stuff.

I'll have to see how the rumor mill plays out. The usual rumors are that iPhone 5 will not be a huge jump and it's best to wait for iPhone 6 in 2012. That would tie in nicely to when I will want to upgrade again.
