As you can see, the forums are back.
Some of you will likely see some changes ... some of you will be completely oblivious and will likely become the next casualties of this slight regime change.
The forums closed because I'm tired of this site being used as a dumping ground. Egos, trolls and ill do'ers have chased away the high class play here. It crushes me to see the thriving community we had even a year ago and how a lot of those people up and left.
I want them back.
To get them back, things are going to have to change. I've already enacted many changes. Some I'm going to share with you, some I'm not.
First off, user registration is fully moderated. No more auto-authenticating users. I've removed the ban from Gmail and Yahoo mail. If you have been wanting to change your email to correspond to one of these, please do so now.
Second, blogs are no longer a right - they are a privilege. Being a registered user doesn't mean you automatically get a blog. All existing bloggers should already be promoted into the new Reg Users (Bloggers) group that will allow you to continue posting - and hopefully bring some of you back into blogging again (now that your precious blog posts aren't trashed with spams). If you want to blog here, email an admin - and we'll get you hooked up.
Good news, bloggers - you now have HTML editing rights for your blogs and I've pruned out (again) all the BS users and posts - this time, it should be for good.
Some changes in ... clientèle ... is going to change here (some has already changed). During my look back at the logs and prior posts I see a lot of people I miss having here ... and they have all left because of what this forum has become and how the people are treated by others. I plan on personally inviting a lot of them back in hopes of thinning the bloodline a little here. If they come back, and it's business as usual around here - they won't stay.
I've pruned out a lot of users that were inactive or simply signed up and never contributed. Our user base is now back to triple digit - and I'm fine with that.
If you've been cut from these forums - do the right thing - stay away. Don't cry to the other members, don't try to spam or sign up under another name. You're not coming back - and anyone attempting a coup over the missing users will suffer the same fate. I no longer make apologies or excuses why I want someone gone from these forums. Sorry if that's a bit draconian - but I've let things slide long enough trying to be "Mr. Nice Guy".
I want my friends back here and I'm willing to step on a few toes to do it.
That being said, I don't want discussions about "what happened" or "who was at fault" or "who is missing" ... Let's proceed with a new found respect for each other and the conversations here and make this whole ugly incident go away. Any discussions of this nature will be nuked and the posters reprimanded.
BTW, the reputation system is now turned on. If someone pisses you off or you don't like what's going on, feel free to start wielding your thoughts via that system. It will become painfully obvious QUICKLY whom else needs booted off the island.
As usual, this doesn't mean anyone needs to kiss the admin's asses or not disagree with them. This forum has always been about passionate discussions, but there are better ways to do it than how we all have been handling it.
Lastly, you're going to start seeing the CMS content start being moved over (albeit slowly) from here to Review Lagoon. If you feel there is content missing that used to be here but you can't find there, let us know.
I don't want to loathe coming to my own forums - and I'm not going to anymore.
Thanks everyone.
