What are some good games that isn't God of War, a port, or racing game?
I didn't mind the translation of Shadow of Memories (Destiny in the US) - and it seems to be one of the aspects they have changed in the PSP adaptation. Loved it either way. Persona 3, and especially Persona 4 -- loved them! Also loved Persona 1 and 2 (both of the "2"s) of course. Don't mind a quality port that improved on the original - besides, not everyone played those games when they first came out, and if the "port" is sometimes as good or better than the console counterpart, and cheap too, then ... it's great news for all gamers!

To answer your other question: depends on what you like playing I guess. For instance, I'd highly recommend Final Fantasy Crisis Core (not a port), Kingdom Hearts, Silent Hill Origins (not perfect but very enjoyable), Little Big Planet (not quite a port - it is its own portable game), Tekken Dark Ressurection and Tekken 6, Soul Calibur , GTA Liberty City Stories (and Vice City Stories too - both EXCELLENT and they're not ports), actually I loved GTA Chinatown Wars on the DS too but ended up playing the superior PSP version more (so, a port yes but a better one - recommended), I loved LocoRoco and Patapon 1 and 2 (both of them!), obviously Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker is not a port (and one of the best MGS games on any platform), I loved SOCOM Tactical Strike, Warhammer 40000 and Killzone Liberation (not a port), both Daxter and Rachet and Clank were excellent (not a port), in fact Secret Agent Clank was very good as well, I ended up playing LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Batman and LEGO Indiana Jones on the PSP (as good as their console counterparts and playing on the go meant I could actually play these games a lot more) ... I could go on, for instance depending on your taste I could recommend Popolocrois, Phantasy Star, Dungeon Explorer, Star Ocean, Crush, Everybobody's Golf, Syphon Filter Dark Mirror, Metal Gear Ac!d 2

I bought Shadow of Destiny for like 3 or so bucks used on the PS2 like 5 or 6 years ago. You know a game has a bad translation when a character asks "Will you deal with me?" when he actually means "So we have a deal then?". The voice acting was garbage as well.

This is the issue with the PSP for me, I picked up the Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker bundle recently and haven't found much else I like other than that. Almost all of the games you mentioned are not my cup of tea.

^That's not a translation. Resident Evil's original language has always been english.

That's cool ... there are 6 (almost 7) billion people in the world, maybe a couple of billion or so potentially interested in interactive technologies (not necessarilly games as we understand them), maybe there are 100 million gamers or 150 million of us if you're lucky (judging from total sales of PS2, DS, etc -- and that's optimistic because you have to factor in people buying multiple versions of the same console) ... so there aren't many of us around, and tastes are obviously different even amongst this minority gaming crowd.

It is a given that not everything is for everyone, just the way it is.

But let me ask you something, out of pure curiosity, and please be honest: does your answer also mean that you're obviously not interested at all in Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Tekken (and so on, and so forth) on ANY other handheld? Or just the PSP for some reason ? Are you not interested in ports and adaptations and rehashes of ANY game on ANY platform, or just the ones I mentioned?

I own four games for my PSP currently Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Dissidia, Persona 1, Megaman X Maverick Hunter. I enjoy all those games to some extent.

I'll elaborate on the games you mentioned.

I own the original Little Big Planet for PS3, I like the game but not enough to purchase it on the PSP.

I've never liked Tekken, I've always preferred games more like Street Fighter.

I've never owned or been a big fan of GTA games, although I understand why people love them.

Did you mention a Resident Evil game? I love Resident Evil.

I adore Peace Walker. But the Acid games just weren't for me.

I love the Final Fantasy series, but I wasn't a big fan of 7. I'd much rather have a spin off of 9. Kingdom Hearts has never been my thing.

Star Ocean is a game I could sink my teeth into.

I don't know much about the new Dungeon Explorer. I owned the original on TG16 and it was a god awful Gauntlet clone.

As for the rest you mentioned I'm not even remotely interested.

Dungeon Explorer is a solid game...on the DS. I haven't tried it on the PSP however we reviewed the crap out of it on DSR and from what I understand they are similar on both platforms so I'm sure the PSP version probably isn't bad.

Latest on PSP2 is that developers have the dev kit under the codename "Veta". There will be NO UMD drive, just like the PSPGo.

Similar concepts and gameplay. The PSP had many more options. Almost too many after playing the DS version I kind of felt a little overwhelmed. But I still enjoyed it (even though I haven't come near to completing either of them yet).
But then again the DS version started feeling a bit repetitive when I last was working on it maybe due to its simplicity?. But that could also have been just burnout on the game in general. Probably why I put it down for a break and haven't gotten back to it yet.
