ARRGH How to put music & photos onto an iphone/ipod/ipad!? I give up on Itunes

I made a big mistake and updated Itunes yesterday.. I've always been able able to just drag music onto the iphone/ipod/ipad from Explorer.. now I cant even do that.

Yes.. manual Sync. But still, now the only way to do it is to "add the mp3 to the itunes library", then drag it within Itunes from the library onto my Apple device. Then I have to delete it from the library (since a lot of it is on removable backup hard drives), and it's just a whole extra hassle.

And photos. I like to put photos on the Ipad. Lots of people say "just create a single folder, copy the pics you want to it, then sync to that folder".. Yeah well when I'm done and I delete those redundant pics from my PC, then two weeks down the road I want to put a measly 3 other new pics on there, it takes off all the old pics and puts in the new 3. WTF.

I've had it.. Does anyone know of a good 3rd party app amongst all of them out there that works today? I used to use Anapod explorer but I'm not sure if that's good anymore. I also tried Sharepod but apparently it can't write to the newer versions (iphone_ITouch4, database version 51).

For something that's supposed to be user friendly to the computer-illiterate, it's driving my tech EE engineering brain nuts.

I don't want to "sync", I just want to "PUT"..Is it so hard!!? HELP

I use the photobucket app on my iPad--it's actually pretty convenient keeping the pictures on the cloud and downloading them when I need them.

I'm horrified any time I need to sync up with iTunes. Somthing stupid happens like 1 out of ever 3 times I do it.

Can't you just add your stuff to the iTunes library and keep it there? It can stay in the location that you have everything in and is just linked over. It seems easier then always removing/adding.

I've always said that iTunes is like an airplane - it's fine as long as you leave it on auto pilot, but if you wish to assume manual control, you better know EXACTLY what you're doing, or else you're going to run it into the ground.

Why this god-forsaken program is so popular is beyond me. I think most people just leave it on auto pilot and never realize how bad it really sucks, which is probably what Apple is banking on.

That is a possibility. But it gets a little annoying though when in the future I attempt to put a song on an apple device again, and then Itunes just complains it can't do anything because the file could not be found. A lot of my stuff is on a bunch of removable media (e.g. 700 gig SATA drives I plug into a dock, etc.). Best to just not confuse the library and myself and keep it clean.

And no I won't use Itunes library to catalog my stuff... last time I tried that it constantly choked on about 150,000 files (around half a terrabyte) of songs until I finally said screw this.

Agreed. I will not even mention the nightmare I had when updating itunes & the iphone just yesterday. Needless to say it took me half a day to recover. I will say Itunes complained I didn't have enough space (15 gigs free on the C: OS drive) and I had to cancel out after a lot of wasted time.. well sonofa bitch I have nearly 600 free gigs spread out across 7 drives here. Why would it not give me the option to use another drive? Gimme a break. Anyway..

I simply will NOT buy any music player that doesn't mount as a drive out of the box. Seeing posts like this just reinforce that believe.

I prefer it that way too but I do own an iTouch and have to deal with iTunes......I'd rather not but that's how it works.

Is iTunes as difficult to work with on a Mac as it is on a PC? If not, a cynic might suggest it's all a part of perpetuating the myth that PC's are error prone and difficult to use...
