Strange, but at the Destineer Games site there is no mention of the DS game, only the Wii "Dragon's Lair Trilogy" which will have Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and Dragon's Lair II - Time Warp. That is supposed to be out fall of 2010. The DS version of the game is starting to reach "Duke Nukem Forever" status. Well, even Forever is getting a release now.

All the web stuff I'm seeing shows that Digital Leisure has full backing on the Wii version. I'm pinging my people at DL to see if they can comment on the DS version.

Alas, I heard back ...
The DS version coming is the DSiWare version with slightly better video, a move guide and a watch mode (unlockable). It is authorized by Digital Leisure.

Does this mean it's a good version then, Shane?

The version we'll see on the DS will be "average". The DSiWare version was pretty average. It didn't hold a candle to the United Coder version (mentioned a few posts up) - and I don't expect this version to stand up any better.
The biggest complaint on the DSiWare version (for most people) was the fact that the video had to be compressed and optimized for the DSiWare size restrictions and this led to "dropped frames" throughout. Some of these dropped frames contained the "flash" effect that actually helps guide you through each level. If you already knew how to play Dragon's Lair - this wasn't a big deal. However, like most "home versions", the DSiWare version suffered the "simulation vice emulation" restriction which makes the game even MORE linear (if that's possible) than it already is. Tricks you do in the arcade game you couldn't pull in the DSiWare game - such as the reversed falling platform, etc. Some "alternate timings" and "alternate moves" don't work (like being able to push UP **OR** left/right while in the water rapids).

It's unfortunate they went this route since I don't have a DSi. Maybe I will pick it up when the 3ds comes out.
