    The Droid Invasion Has Begun

In Q2 2010, Android leapfrogged Blackberry as the leading operating system in handsets sold to US consumers. Android accounted for 33% of handsets sold, with RIM taking 28% and the iPhone 4 launch helping Apple take 22%.

Something else to track NPD stats for--yay!!

The NPD Group: Motorola, HTC drive Android to Smartphone OS lead in the U.S.

The news is literally BURSTING with articles of Android's overtaking of the market.

We're up to 200,000 Androids a day being activated. Android outsells Apple the first 6 months of 2010 (including iPhone 4 launch). iPhone developers seem to be migrating in droves to provide content to Android (and other platforms too, like DS and consoles).

    Remember, what I said ... January 2011.

Well, let's hope Google doesn't slaughter everyone in the market, lest you forget what happened to Internet Explorer once all of the browser competition died off.

Yeah, Chrome isn't ready for full time yet - may never be. It's my "backup" browser for Opera now - and extensions don't seem to cause Chrome issues like Firefox has. Boots faster too.

I will never, ever understand what is your problem with Firefox. Add-ons can update automatically, disable themselves if they aren't compatible with a new version, and come out with new useful features all the time. I've NEVER had any significant problems with plug ins. What more do you want it to do? Remind you to pick up your kid at daycare?

I mean, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you are nitpicking. Granted, I'm told that Chrome is faster than Firefox out of the box, but I've tried Chrome and don't notice a significant difference.

For people who can tell the difference, Firefox 4 is being renovated to be super fast like Chrome is. And the tab candy actually looks like it will be a killer feature. Not to make this into a Firefox thread or anything.

Actually, I really am envying my dad's HTC Droid. I use it and literally cannot believe that it's running Linux, as it functions like no Linux distribution I've ever used. I mean, you can actually go to a program's website and download an executable installer to install new programs. Linux has needed that ever since I stopped using it.

I actually referring to Android... the browser part was just an analogy

Chairo, I can sum up Shane's two biggest issues with Firefox (unless this list has changed recently):

    - Screen scaling (Opera does it better)
    - No MDI in Firefox

And yeah, I've not had any problems with Firefox extensions since the 1.x days, except for extensions not being updated for newer versions of Firefox/Thunderbird (in which case they simply don't run).

Those are two issues for sure. Both of those features are non-negotiable for me. Chrome's zoom is better than Firefox (but not as good as Opera).

Firefox boots like a pregnant yak. I can load both Opera and Chrome before Firefox loads.

Firefox sucks memory like a fucking pig.

Yes, I would use Firefox if neither Chrome nor Opera existed.
