Also like posting your name on your mailbox - look up name in the phonebook, dial up the #, lets the bad guys know no one is at home. Dont know where the 'cautious' ends and the paranoia begins..

Kind of scary whats out there if you look...

    Hang in there Shane!

I'm curious to know how development for the Android platform feels, Shane. Having interest for mobile devices I could do programming, I considered once to get a Blueberry or a iPhone but I had a good offer for a second hand HTC with Windows Mobile recently. It's simply wonderful the level of integration with Visual Studio regarding debugging and .NET applications are made very quickly and without pain. I don't have much free time, so it seems just the right efford time to do an application in useful time. Nothing like doing homebrew for the PSP which due to Sony 'mouse and cat' game attitude towards homebrews, hides system calls from latest firmwares and makes obsolete some of the free sdk samples, so you spend most of the dev time searching. Of course you can take the native c++ development also for the Windows Mobile but at least you have some decent documentation.

Well, Sony ain't the only one deprecating system calls or methods. Look at Sun's Java API from 1.0 to 2.0 they revamped all their methods. Most of the methods used in 1.1 don't work with 2.0 compilers.

I am pretty much the Blackberry guy here at work. We have about 250 Blackberry phones all connected to a Blackerry Enterprise Server (BES). Recently more and more people have been wanting to connect the Iphone/droid to our company email and we don't allow it mainly because of security reasons. Active Sync works, but we lose a lot of control and there is no way to wipe the device if it gets lost or stolen (which happens frequently).

We just found a product that we have been testing with a limited number of users. It is called Good Mobile www.good.com. We have a server, similar to the BES that the user connects to via an app on the phone. It is still early in development, but so far everyone seems to like it. For business users, it makes the Iphone/Droid more like a Blackberry.

If you have AT&T or Sprint it works with the standard data plan, but we have found out that Verizon makes you pay an additional charge to be able to use Good on their devices. I don't know about other carriers.

    Apple sues HTC

Just news from the press. Apple is suing HTC (a taiwanese mobile manufacture that produces Nexus one mobile) for them copying the iPhone interface. Everyone knows that HTC Nexus One is running off the Google Android OS, meaning Apple is indirectly attacking Google's entry into the mobile market. Read here.

Well the ping pong match of litigations has just fired off, first it was Nokia vs Apple now its Apple vs (HTC & Google). These heavyweights are gonna duke it out.

Meanwhile the iPhone is eating scraps from what Palm has used for years (AHEM Treo etc). Hypocrites.

Well, that's a different game. Sony closes their SDK and collect royalties. Sony does this to protect their investment, trying to make live hard for homebrewers who have no other option to use the (excellent) open source sdk. For real hackers these difficulties are a real joy but for "regular" homebrew programmers who just want to create for the platform it's a major pain in the place. At least, speaking for myself.
