    The Apple iPad

What do you guys think of this?

It's definitely sexy, oozes with futuristic-ness, but I like what the chick from CNET said, "The lack of how much I need this product is inhibiting how much I want this product."

Whatever Apple do it will always sell because there are too many dedicated iSheeple out there willing to buy anything Apple release. Steve Jobs could release a turd on a stick and call it iLolly. It will sell

I'm not interested in this thing but I guarantee I will not be able to escape the incoming onslaught of "iPad this, iPad that, iPad made me pregnant" hype

I think it's kinda cool--like a kindle on steroids, and addresses some of the things I find annoying about my Touch.

I would buy one in a flash if it played 720p and 1080p Bluray rips in the standard MKV format... Sadly, I'm pretty sure that won't be the case.

Yea, i was thinking the same as Alex... a Color Kindle, with added weight, cost... or a Phat I-Pod, or a crippled laptop.

Another rich guys' toy or apple Fanboy Achievement. Meh.

    Steve said during the keynote:

"So all of us use laptops and smartphones... the question has arisen; is there room for something in the middle. We've wondered for years as well -- in order to create that category, they have to be far better at doing some key tasks... better than the laptop, better than the smartphone."

"What kind of tasks? Browsing the web. Doing email. Enjoying and sharing pics. Watching videos. Enjoying music. Playing games. Reading ebooks."

"If there's gonna be a third category, it has to be better at these tasks -- otherwise it has no reason for being."

"Now some people thought that was a netbook -- the problem is that netbooks aren't better than anything!"

    Then everyone cheered

Cost is a huge factor in what have made netbooks popular. Don't get me wrong, iPad will sell extremely well, but it won't come close to reaching the popularity of netbooks.

Get ready for Acer and Asus to follow this with the Windows 7 tablet netbooks that have been rumored to be in the works for some time now. Only at half the price and without being tied to AT&T.

I think it's a cool device but it's just not practical. It won't replace my Kindle--I don't need a color screen to read a book and I really like my free 3G wireless, not giving that up anytime soon. But what I love about it the most is that it will light a fire under other company's asses to deliver cool ****. This will push Amazon, Google, Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony--and all for very different reasons.

I remember Shane and I were talking a while back about what the perfect "next gen" Kindle would be like. This is close, with the exception of the AT&T reliability issues and cost.

I'm with you, everything was going so well until they brought AT&T into the mix. WTF.
