Haha... you compared the Wii to Fidel Castro. And I'll go with the former... there are a lot of soccer moms and grandpas out there. Cuz we know it ain't the games.

I know the hardware numbers are out of this world, but how are the software numbers? Outside of the occasional first party AAA title I believe the Wii has a hard time moving software, no?

Not at all--we've debunked that myth in several threads here on the forums. The fact is, Wii has more million-seller games than any other console, and that includes million sellers for all the big publishers like EA, Activision, Ubisoft, etc. as well as many of the smaller publishers.

Over the weekend, I had a real eye-opener about just how well Wii (and DS) games really sell. While shopping at non-electronics type stores with my family, I saw Wii and DS games being sold a Kohls, a department store that deals mainly in clothing. I saw Wii and DS games at Walgreens, HEB (a frigging supermarket, for pete's sake), even Office Max has a Wii games kiosk near the registers. Marshalls, Ross, Burlington Coat Factory--all carry Wii and DS games. None of these retailers carry games for non-Nintendo systems.

Do you have any idea how many additional units these kinds of non-traditional outlets mean for software sales? I'm not surprised though, that many veteran gamers still have the perception Wii games don't sell considering that many gamers take IGN's, Gamespot's, etc. word for it whenever they perpetuate these kinds of myths.

Take a look at the actual software sales numbers--you'll be surprised at what you find.

Hmmm... I do listen to several gaming podcasts and every month they roll out the NPDs and it seems like the majority of the top sellers are on 360. (Maybe someone wants to add up the numbers?)

But whatever, it appears the Wii does appear to have a handful of great games to tide over Wii only owners. I still maintain that if you want to experience the greatest games of this generation, you'll find the majority of them on 360 (or PS3, I guess).

According to vgchartz.com (not official, but it's it's the only database of it's kind available to the public), Wii has sold 240 million units of software compared to XBox 360's 149 million. And the 360 had a full year of a head start. This is for worldwide sales.

And hey, I won't argue with you about the quality of 360 games--I'm a 360 owner too. They are just very different types of games, IMO.

Well then you're right... the rumors of the Wii's lack of software sales have been greatly exaggerated as well
