    The nostalgia is welling up

    Hey everyone,
I just joined the forums here and it's nice to find a place where old-school gaming is still considered cool. My name is Marty and I've been an avid video game freak since the early eighties. My very first home console was the beloved Atari 2600 and I still have it in good working condition today. I was about 6 years old and then I knew that video games weren't just fun, they became an obsession. Through the years I followed the video game craze, its crash, and it's re-emergence into pop culture. I also loved the early pc games as well, especially the Sierra On-Line graphic adventures such as King's Quest and Space Quest. My all time favorite game of all time is the original arcade classic Dragon's Lair. I love this game so much that I felt it was necessary to start my own film documentary project about it. After months of research, a ton of emails, and even an article in Game Room magazine, I'm ready to get the ball rolling on actual production. I'm interested in what people here have to say about the idea, what their memories of the game are, any random stories, etc.. I'm also interested in talking about classic gaming in general so drop me a line if you like.

Anyone interested in the documentary can go here and here

Sounds like an interesting film, I'd definitely check it out (that goes for any films about 80s arcade games). To be honest, I was never a huge Dragon's Lair fan, though. I always sucked at it, and never got very far. I like done of the DL games on the Amiga, though (DL 2?) because it had a mode where it woudl show you arrows to let you know when to move the stick. Kind of cheating, but it also made the game playable. No denying the game's place in history, though.

BTW, the link to the video has an extra http: at the end, preventing it from working directly. Nice to see all that footage, though.

Welcome to the forums Marty! This forum was primarily a classic gaming forum and has morphed into a great modern gaming forum due to the great stuff that has come out the last few years... check out shanes Retrogaming Radio shows - i am sure you will love them. I am sure Shane will chime in also as he is a Dragons Lair slut.

I think the majority of us here are about your age... i am a child of the A2600/C64/Amiga myself and still die hard classic gamer... although some modern gaming has really stolen my time (recently COD MW2) my other great love is Pinball...

PS - I am a Gameroom magazine subscriber - what article did you write?

I didnt write it, but there was an article in this months Game Room about my movie. It was featured in "The Wayback Machine". I'll have it posted on my website after the end of November. I was asked not to share it until then. It's good to know there's a good amount of people my age still keeping the classics alive. I've been introduced to Shane as well, but we haven't had a real chance to get to know each other yet. I'm sure he'll chime in sometime soon though. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone and ask me anything you like about my production, it's open for discussion.

Ya, pretty busy on this end ... But I saw you register and knew you would get around to posting at some point

Good to see you here ... don't let all the modern talk fool you ... we're just die hard gamers, pretty much regardless of time or platform... right now, we're just enamored with MW2

Speaking of films about 80s arcade games has anybody got any recomandations please?
Or maybe just 80's films ''about'' games such as The Wizzard, Wargames... ?

"Nightmares" is a 1983 horror anthology film. The second story, "Bishop of Battle", stars Emilio Estevez as a gamer obsessed with beating a certain arcade game which ends up coming to life when he reaches the 13th Level. Wikipedia says that the sequence cost so much it nearly bankrupted the film.
