iPod Touch 2G vs. 3G for gaming?

I'm going to pick up an ipod touch, primarily for gaming (although I'm sure I'll pick up some other apps like a metronome, etc).

Is there any significant difference between the 2G and 3G models for gaming? How is compatibility between different versions? I can get a 16 or 32GB 2G model pretty cheap and I don't really see any reason to fork over the extra for a 3G.

Also, what are your top 5 games? I've poked around the various iphone game/app threads, but it'd be nice to get some "favorites" lists now that people have had time to play the games.

Enjoy your hour and a half to two hours (if lucky) of gaming battery power.

I recommend you consult the official iPod apps thread.

A couple of my personal faves (Although I don't game on it much anymore due to crappy controls and battery):

    Flight Control
    Dungeon Scroll
    Wolfenstein RPG

    So Womp,

Based on your post I am guessing you are recommending I don't become seduced by the thought of an IPOD touch as gaming platform.

I like playing games on my iPhone. In fact, I haven't touched my DSi in a month (Maybe that will change if I ever get Scribblenauts), but I play games on my iPhone almost every day.

As for 2G vs. 3G, I don't think it should make that much of a difference on which one you get. I am guessing that it is the same as the difference between an iPhone 3G or 3G S. Sure, loading times are faster, and some games run a lot smoother, but shouldn't be that big of a deal.

It has some neat little games but the problem is that I use my Touch for mobile web browsing, music and a few of the other little apps on it. Since playing games sucks the living hell out of the battery, it ends up eating into the time and power I have remaining to do those specific things I'd rather do on it.

Playing certain games on it will literally eat 25% of your battery in a mere 20-30 min.

I still say the best bang for your buck is to get the 2G 16 gig model while you still can. Whether most developers will even make use of that extra speed and graphics power in the future is unknown. However, since most iPod Touch owners are 1st and 2nd gen, they would be alienating probably 80% of their customer base in doing so.
