The Official Halo 3 ODST Thread

Halo 3 ODST comes out tonight.
    Big Launch Party!

    http://www.bungie.net/News/content.a...ink=BWU_091809
    Reviews looking good so far..
    1up.com A-
    GameTrailers 9.0
    Pretty much getting 9.0 - 9.5's etc.

Most the reviews i've read the people don't seem to know, what you can or not do in the game and are sometimes Noobie'ish.
For example you can hijack vehicles just not the big ones.
Another thing they don't mention is Bungie did this game in 1 year. Most game companies cannot even put out something like this in 1 year..
So some of the reviews I think are a bit harsh.. given the amount of time Bungie had on this game.

Regarding why the game is $60
    1. The game comes with Halo 3 multiplayer and Forge. (3 new maps) doesn't require you to waste hard drive space.
    2. The game comes with ODST a New Campaign and Firefight.
    3. A invite to Halo Reach Beta during the Spring Next Year.

Overall Package is worth the money.
But overall Solid game and worth the $60 price tag.

Isn't there another 2 threads devoted to this game? Seems a little redundant...

This game's in the refrigerator: the door is closed, the lights are out, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard, and the Jell-O's jigglin'! - chadfx.com

Apparently he tried to rename the preview thread but was unable. I'm not sure if he ever messaged any of the mods to do it. Anyway, its glad to have an OFFICIAL thread!

I watched the ign us review and to be honest they seemed abit more like fanboys then unbiased reviewers they gave it a nine which is about the same they gave to the others, now how is it possible to put it as high as the others when the campaign mode is only around 6 hours and firefight(one of the big draws)has no matchmaking, now I'm not saying this is not worth the money because I think it is but I don't think you will be able to rate it as good as 1 2 or 3.
ign aus gave it a good review and a good score.

Seeing as how I got this game for $30, the value is perfect.

Beef, you bring up a good point, and one that has really disappointed me... The fact that firefight does not have match making. I guess I'll only be playing that when the others here on the forum are. Sometimes I wonder who it is that makes those type of decisions.

I'm sorry, but reviewers really shouldn't factor the length of time a game took to create into the discussion and scoring of a game. Does it matter to the end user of the software how long it took to produce once it's out? No, so it's irrelevant.

I don't care that Too Human took 10 years to make, it's still a bad-to-average game. If it'd taken one or two years, that wouldn't change a bit, it still wouldn't be a good game, and therefore should receive the same score.

The length of time that a game took to be released should probably be mentioned in a review if it is an exceptional case (Too Human taking 10 years, CoD3 taking 10 months or whatever), however it should not factor into the scoring. It's fine for a review to almost say 'for how long this game took to come out, it's pretty underwhelming' or 'this game is quality and very well polished for how quickly they worked on it', but it isn't an important point in scoring a game because, at the end of the day, it simply doesn't matter to anyone other than the developers, publishers and financial backers.

I should point out that I'm not a fan of review scores of pretty much any kind... That's a topic of discussion for another thread at another time though

As far as I understand it, since they announced it last year. ODST (originally named "Recon") was supposed to be an expansion pack for Halo 3. Microsoft realized that there's enough of a following for the Halo series and decided to lengthen the game and put a $60 price tag on it.

If you're a fan of the series, this is great for you. But for the regular guy looking for a "new experience" this isn't adding much. I'm not 100% on this, but from what I've read, most of the multiplayer maps are re-makes from Halo 3 anyhow. I don't see how that could be worth $60.

Personally, I don't think reviewers have been harsh enough. Halo 3 came out 2 years ago guys. Don't you think they could have come up with something better than a prequel to Halo 3? The game is Halo 3, reskinned with some new scenarios, it adds very little to the Halo universe and there's very few enhancements or updates from Halo 3. How could this be worth $60? They should have stuck to their original plan, sold this as a $40 expansion pack for Halo 3 and spent more resources on developing something new for Halo "Reach".

Unfortunately man, the same could be said about most FPS games, or games in general.

More like an expansion pack for Halo 2, since it is said to take place during that time period. But even if they did that, I still think people that are not a fan of the series would still find issue with it, and they are all going to have some issue with "Reach". As for the remake of some Halo 2 maps, bungie has stated that this is what the fans have been requesting for years.

It was ODST that got me to even give this Halo series a chance. I gave it that chance and, I know I'm going against the grain on this forum, I very much enjoyed them. I'm not saying that I will automatically like ODST anymore than I will automatically like MW2. It has to be fun to me for me to say I like the game and enough to recommend it to you.

I am really sorry man, but you have expressed your dislike of Halo in the past. And your posts on this particular thread come across very much as a critic, and a critic that cannot be pleased at that.

I know I only paid $30 for this game but lets just say I paid full price. So from my particular perspective, I am getting $30 worth of DLC map packs for Halo 3. That alone makes ODST without the packs a $30 game. So, for me, that is a great value. When this game arrives, I'll play it. If I like it, I'll recommend it. Just like I did with Fable II and NHL 10. If I don't like it, I will say as much.
