Thread: Adobe SVG Viewer

    Adobe SVG Viewer

In Mexico we are in the sh¡t technologically speaking, so it's only recent that our Utility companies have started to put up websites where you can see your bill online.

I just tried to do such a thing with my water bill, and when I try to see it online, I get an error message saying I don't have Adobe SVG Viewer installed.

When I try to install it (from the Water company website) I get this message:

Sorry, the Adobe SVG Viewer does not support your Web browser. The Adobe SVG Viewer supports only the following systems:

    • Netscape Navigator 4.0 through 4.73 on Windows 95/98/2000/XP or NT 4.0,
    • Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher on Windows 95/98/2000/XP or NT 4.0,
    • Netscape Navigator 4.07 through 4.73 on Macintosh System 8.51 or higher, or
    • Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher on Macintosh System 8.51 or higher.

WTF? Is Adobe SVG that old? I never heard of it. I assume because the Water Company is in the 1990s, they are using this obsolete application?

I use Firefox and it looks like it's not supported. Only Netcaspe 4 or IE5, LOL.

What on earth would you need SVG for with regards to billing?

Ah wait. The service offered by the Water company is only the possibility of seeing your bill online. You can't pay it online, no way. That will happen around 2015, maybe.

I think what these morons are doing is scanning the actual bill they sent to your home and put it online; they might be using SVG to draw the boxes and stuff.

The latest versions of Firefox support SVG quite well. It sounds like they aren't doing SVG checking correctly and are relying on the old viewer only. Lazy programming.
