odd it was there when I posted it *gives the forums a odd look*
I think they have every right of doing this. You installed software that they can't assure that it won't blow up your Wii. From their point of view, the homebrew software might have caused the problem.

I am not against the concept of the HBC, but think it's completely fair for Nintendo to do this. I am actually surprised updates don't uninstall the HBC, which is what I thought this thread was going to be about.
I dont know... It really doesn't take much of anything to just install the Homebrew Channel. The firmware isn't being messed with - so long as you haven't gone above 3.2 on the Wii.
On the other hand, it's way to easy to be a pirate with it installed and Nintendo should have the right to fight piracy.
I predict seeing someone advertising their services to fix Wiis and not charge extra now though..
However you can't assume that just because someone has the homebrew channel installed that they are a pirate.
I believe that Microsoft bans a console from online if it's been modified. But I think that's just the protect the online segment.

Tripped the hammer...it fell down!
That's exactly right, homebrew has lots of neat stuff that can be done.
But one of the biggest draws for it is emulators and that takes away from the virtual console.
Granted though, I do like being able to play Mother 3 on a big TV....
Hmmm, seems a bit harsh considering it is *software* not a physical modification. But I do agree that homebrew could be seen as taking revenue away from the Virtual Console.
I've been thinking about putting homebrew stuff on my Wii, but this sort of thing would persuade me not to.
