Man this would be convenient. Are you able to rip your own Wii games? I don't like the idea of d0wnl04d1ng the romzorz.
Alas, I'm on 4.0, so I guess I'm screwed until/unless they figure out another way to install HBC.

When you go into Wii configuration, it will have the version of your system firmware in the top right hand corner of the screen. Mine says something like "Wii System 4.0U".
I wish I hadn't been so quick to update. Being able to load my own games off a hard drive would be awesome. I do this with my PS2 with HDLoader, so convenient.
I have never put my Wii online, is that the only way to get version 4.0 on my system? I heard that some games have the update included.
I only have a few games, like Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit, do we know if any of those have 4.0?
Ah, I just read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_System_Software
It says that 4.0 dropped on March 25, 2009. Then I'm almost sure I don't have it since I don't believe I have even turned ON the Wii since December last year. And I sure haven't bought any new games for it since Wii Fit.
You cannot roll back.
Flare, you sound safe. Just get CIOS on there asap, and you're good.

Another question; can I grab a portable 80GB Hard Drive and format it for this purpose? Can I connect that to the Wii? Or am I limited to Flash Memory drives?
There is a compatibility Wiki somewhere ... if I find it, I'll post it.
I'm going to snag a 130GB or so external drive for it at some point.
