"Consider the improbable is possible"
I haven't tried anything on the USB loader front but There's another development on this.
People have started to create menu WADs for games. What it does exactly is it creates a channel for the game on the wii menu that links directly on the hard drive. In practice, it means you can have a Mario kart channel that looks exactly like the game from the disc menu.
People are creating channels for all their games, so you have the Wii menu and all your game available just like if they were wiiware-VC. Talk about convenient.
So to confirm. Are these the right steps to get this running?
I can go and rent Twilight Princess, do the hack on my unmodded Wii and then install the Homebrew Channe.
Then I install the IOS36 rev9 Installer
Then I install the USB-Loader_v1.1.zip
Then I put a game on the Wii, copy it to my USB thumb drive and run the game from there?
I found this tutorial for people like me, who know nothing about this:

Just installed this on my Wii Today, and I'm loving it. The convenience of being able to play every game I own without having to get up from my chair to change DVDs can not be overstated!Plus, when my nephews come over and want to play the Wii, I won't have to watch them like a hawk every time they want to play a different game. My DVDs can remain safely tucked away, and they can play to their hearts content. Thanks for the heads up on this!

After some fiddling around with it, and finally figuring out that the size of my Western Digital 1TB hard drive seemed to be the issue, I repartitioned it into 2 partitons roughly 490gb and it recognized one of them. ATM I have 14 of my Wii games installed on it, taking up 24.93gb.

Yeah it's awsome. I'm running the channel version with the wii theme. Also tried my older ipod an works on it. Wiipod
.
I'm currently using an 8gig integral class6 sdhc card with reader. an can comfirm that it works mostly fine. I've had a few freezes when installing the game but when i reset it installed fine :confused. I have about 4 games on it.
What I like is
It's shuts up the noisy wii drive.
I don't have to put the disc in.
The loading times are improved.
It scrubs the wii games an removed the extra padded data. You can fit alot of games on a small card. Wii sports is under 1gig, an house of the dead overkill around 3. Zelda tp around 1gig.
I'm getting a usb hardrive later on an use gparted to partition a space for the wii for it.

Correct as long as your not on 4.0 you can get the homebrew installed. Also you may want to check out the usb compatablity list @ gbatemp.

How can I know if I'm not in 4.0? And what games would put me on 4.0?
And if I have 4.0 is there a way to go back?
