    Vista Sucks

    Copied from MyBB.

This was easily done in XP. For some reason, this isn't the case with Vista. I can change the address of her "My Documents" folder to a Networked drive/folder, but apparently there is no synchronization as was part of XP.

Funny thing is there's a "Sync Wizard", bs. But windows wizards tend to be not so helpful...

    Any suggestions?

Vista is a tough pill to swallow, but you get used to it after a while. Not sure about the folder sync thing, haven't done that before.

Then with My Docs redirected, right click on it and select "Make Available Offline"

That will by default sync at logon and logoff I think.

It will take a while first go though so make sure it is cabled and go to sleep while it happens.

As Marcus recommended, I went ahead and downloaded SyncToy. I can use "task scheduler" so it syncs everytime I shutdown. So I ran it, but the only problem is some weird file access error I get when trying to access her files. I don't think it's a big deal, but didn't fix it yet, because she was so antsy to play with her new rig.

Very nice notebook BTW... Just wish it ran XP, betcha it would run at twice the speed. Vista seems to be eating resources like crazy. You'd think with a Duo Core 3 ghz with 4gb of RAM this thing would scream. It's ok, but Vista seems to be a resource hog...

    MS doesn't learn.

If they are on a share using NTFS file permissions then she won't have access to them, only the ones configured for Everyone - Modify or above.

Even if her username on the new PC is the same as the old one, the account itself will have a new SID (Security Identifier) so you will need to reapply the correct permissions to her documents on the machine she is synching with.

So after a month of going back and forth and not getting adequate resolution to my wife's new laptop, Dell sends me a new laptop with a set of new discs. Guess it was a mistake but they included a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 disc with the set of discs...

    Goodbye Vista!

Just finished reinstalling everything. Wow... This notebook is FAST. What a resource hog Vista is. Either way, all my offline syncing issues were resolved in 5 minutes. BluRay player works great, Notebook is screaming fast. I'm a happy camper.

We can only hope it supports anime rape games and not canine cruelty - You know, Vista compatibility still has growing pains and all.

    Did you mean quotefest?

Actually I've had a copy of Vista since launch, HOWEVER I only installed it on a brand new box exactly a week ago on March 14th

I'm liking it actually!! It's the 64 bit version because I put in 8 gigs of RAM.. and didnt realize XP & regular vista 32 bit could only use about 3 gigs of RAM. So.. I figured it was time to try something new, and Vista 64 bit it was (I've got a number of other boxes & laptops with XP still).

Anyway I deal with maybe one or two annoyances a day, and then I fix it. So far, it's very fast, and about as fine as XP was really.

Vista is working a treat for me. Lots of hobbling, but it's the way I like it now.
